Eighty years ago, on September 30th, 1938, an aeroplane landed at Heston Airport in UK.

The prime minister of Great Britain descended the steps, held aloft a piece of paper and said:-
"This morning I had another talk with the German Chancellor, Herr Hitler, and here is the paper which bears his name upon it as well as mine. Some of you, perhaps, have already heard what it contains but I would just like to read it to you:" He then read out:- " ... We regard the agreement signed last night, and the Anglo-German Naval Agreement, as symbolic of the desire of our two peoples never to go to war with one another again."
He also uttered that most ironic phrase "Peace for our time".
One year later not just Britain and Germany, but the whole world, was at war.

On June 12th. 2018, the President of the United States of America held aloft a piece of paper ...........

history repeating itself... well, i sure hope, not.

I can't help but feel, and correct me if I am wrong, but Looking at the theatre and showmanship of all of this looks to me like a temporary truce between two mentally unstable paranoid delusional narcissists....who have agreed for completely different reasons to cooperate in what they both know deep down is a sham.

Trump needs or wants a win for his ego....
Kim il un needs a breathing space....

... and don't for one second believe that the looming mid-term elections have nothing to do with this.

@Petter

Perish the thought..why who would be so slippery and of such low character to play games to win games?

@Hitchens Lol 🙂

Thank you oh thank you for making the same connection, as I did. President Chamberlain Trump, being played like Adolf played the then British PM. Fools and dictators, the same old story.

Do you hear the beating of drums?

... or is it the throbbing roar of rocket engines and the shrilling of turbines? Accompanied by the rattle of the machine gun. and the rhetoric of the lead singers?

@Petter
Spooling up the turbines!!!
Test firing the guns!!!!
We RIDE!!!!

@bigpawbullets There's a nascent folk song in there somewhere. Where's Dylan when you need him?

@Petter
Well, the old protest tune; "Eve of Destruction" might be appropriate until someone can locate Bob.

It's like nobody there has read any history or has a mentor to teach it.

I understand your point and you could possibly be correct on that, but don't you think we should give a fair chance to see what comes down the road before jumping to conclusions? This type of paranoia reminds me of the same paranoia some christians have over the end days. I guess it's just the times we live in...

I hope something positive will come out of it, but I'm not overly optimistic. Having learned to be cynical about Trump, I see this mainly as a ploy to rally support for the mid-term elections. I note that Mike Pompeo has already contradicted a North Korean expectation of the gradual lifting of sanctions in harmony with progress on de-nuclearisation, meaning that one of Kim's objectives has already been curtailed.
All we can do is to keep our fingers crossed and our eyes wide open.

@Petter Indeed so.

@SpikeTalon You're up early, aren't you? I don't usually go to bed until between 2 and 3 am.

@Petter Yeah, sometimes this site keeps me awake when it shouldn't...

@SpikeTalon Don't I know it! Two nights ago, the first signs of dawn were in the sky as I crept into my bed.

@Petter Oddly enough...same here at the moment.

@SpikeTalon Maybe agnostic.com is researching a new addictive substance, that is created by our bodies in response to words! I certainly get withdrawal symptoms after a few hours away!

@Petter Haha, could be... This site has become like a refuge for me, a retreat from the religious insanity all around me.

@SpikeTalon Fortunately, People in my part of the world usually keep their religion to themselves. But this site is so much more enjoyable than the twits who twitter, or the mainly inane postings on Facebook.

Whatever paper this guy holds up, it might as well come from his bathroom- All covered in the same old shit.

Not worth the paper.

And instead of being his greatest moment, it led to his downfall. Let's hope this last summit doesn't turn out to be the same thing. Not that I would mind Trump's downfall, but another world war would be horrific.

Wow, scary shit.

It could be. Kim and Hitler would be equally despotic.
