I'm always amused by how people react when I tell them I don't believe in god. They either seem mad at me, like I'm personally attacking them by not following suit or they are determined to tell me I'm wrong and that I do believe, as if they know my personal thoughts. Not that any of these people will read this, but in case it ever comes up, this is my official stance.

No, I'm not religious. I have no interest in religion beyond learning about it so I don't just assume things about different ways of life that I don't fully understand. I have no need for religion beyond the happy side effect of a sense of community and belonging, but I can get that from sort of group activity like an Improv class or Trivia Night. Most religions seem to share a lot of the same moralistic teachings, but they almost all have plenty of divisive policies that extremists can use to justify hatred and violence. That is the fault of human error or free will. Politics are no different.

As for the idea of an all-knowing all-loving all-powerful all-seeing god that knows everything and can do anything and loves us all soooo much, well, I call bullshit. There's too much injustice, pain, suffering, and random senseless violence in the world to justify the argument that god works in mysterious ways. For all the innocent lives lost every single day, this all-loving "father" sure as hell doesn't seem to be paying attention. That's the summed up gist of my reasons for being an Atheist.

I do try to be open-minded and accepting of others and their beliefs. As long as they keep their faith to themselves. As soon as one's faith says they are better than everyone else or that they believe their faith allows for violence, again, I call bullshit.

I can be snarky and sarcastic about how I view religion or some religious people, there's plenty to mock and criticize. Ultimately, my negative attitude is on me and I have to be better if I want my views respected, even if they aren't popular. I acknowledge I cannot prove that there is no god, but no one has proved that there is one either. That being said, I also acknowledge the possibility of some form of higher intelligence out there. Who knows if it is even aware of our existence? We may be like microscopic creatures to any truly advanced form of life.

Hiwever, if I am completely wrong about everything, well, if god in fact real and all-knowing, it knows who I am and why I am the way I am. I'm also told I'm made is god's image, so...

I agree with your statememts. Thank you for sharing them. I can get such an attitude with them being offended. Just because I would rather think, rather than just follow along with what anyone says.

The religious can be very rude. They care more about serving God than their fellow man. Not all, but, a lot. They are very annoying.

I like your take on this. It's good to be respectful of others. Sometimes it's hard to be respectful though when they can be so demeaning and their views are so dumb.. Kudos for trying to be a nice guy.
I don't think you're wrong.

@ViscoInferno I feel, "Hostile, " at times because they think that they are better than me. I never needed religion to teach me to be a decent person. But, they can't possibly be better than me, when they are treating differently because I care more about humans.

For example, I take care of a little guy whose parents are Christians. He has fallen out of a second-story window, and, cut his hand. All within like two months! And, there are two parents in the home. I'm a single Mom. That doesn't happen in my home. Where were they? And, God? I am so upset. But, what can I do? I am not trying to tell their business. But, I am so scared for the little dude.

@ViscoInferno I really don't express my views as much as I should, and for sure don't mock people. I just don't like dealing with the fallout. When I do I don't usually get outright hostility. They just question my intelligence or feel sorry for me, both of which piss me off. I don't argue well in person either so if there is a conflict I usually just end up looking stupid and they are vindicated. Mostly keep it to myself outside of my inner circle so I can avoid hating everyone around me.

Just pluralize god and tell people that you don't believe in gods because there are far too many: Hinduism offers 33,000,000 very colourful deities. You can explain that statistically every of those gods and goddesses has a constituency of about 230 dudes. This is higher that the number of dentists per any given population. So these gods can give a lot of attention to each individual. Whereas the god of the Jews, the Christians and the Muslims have only one per 2.5 billion. Impossible to get an audience if you don't know a top rabbi, a pope or an ayatollah. And even these dudes might find it difficult to get a few minutes 1-2-1. by the time the divine instructions reach the subscriber it would be very dilluted indeed just like homeopathic remedies.
Send them to check out the godchecker website. You might also want to check out Caodasim, a sort of Christian pluritheistic version a la vietnamienne

lol, I've had several people get really defensive and even confront me when I state I'm agnostic or atheist. How the hell does my not believing like you threaten you in any way?

Are your deeply held beliefs so fragile that mere contact with a heathen can annihilate all your fairy tales???
