There are studies that show nonbelievers are more altruistic than Christians. I think that may come from our having more sympathy for less the fortunate because we cannot placate ourselves by praying for them or convince ourselves that their plight is god's will.
The two most useless things in the world that people find comfort in are thoughts and prayers.
None of the words that Jesus was supposed of had said till almost 100 years after his supposed torture and death. Historian have said pouring through history that was recorded during that time was really a collection of event of 3 or 4 different people. So the person named Jesus never exsisted just another urban legand taken and made bigger than life by superstion of religions.
Granted Jesus didn't actually exist but I was think of it more like Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. The mythical Jesus basically told people to be nice to each other, life is hard enough without people being assholes towards each other so lighten up and don't be assholes. Those are the tenets I was thinking about when I posted this.
I disagree. Have you actually read ALL the words of Jesus?
I was thinking the broad strokes, imaginary Jesus stuff. Stuff like - Try not to be an asshole. Love your fellow man. etc.
@Surfpirate I know, the cherry-picked verses that you would hear in Sunday School. Actually, when you take everything that Jesus (supposedly) uttered, most of it was not too much different from the twaddle and violence in the OT.
@jioo087 Everybody is still waiting and I thought he said he would be right back? Just popped down to the corner store for a pack of smokes and a six pack but never came back?
I did read the bible cover to cover, twice, just to be sure that I was an Atheist. No question in my mind, that book is a terrible read and if it doesn't make a person an Atheist then they aren't reading it right.
@Surfpirate The Song of Solomon is one of the most poorly written pieces of literature I've ever seen.
