This photo/quote is from Beartown by Frederik Backman. They're talking about hockey, but it just as easily applies to current affairs in America or any political structure. Call your reps and senators. Don't let Trump's EO go through, stop separation, stop the constant lies. This is our home
When I was growing up, much like all of you, I was told how this country was founded by immigrants. They came by land and sea. Some were forced against their will, some came here illegally escaping the law. But on our soil, as long as you worked hard you were one of us.
Today, we are in the middle of a hard push against fellow Americans, bot inside and out of our country. Mexicans are just as American as you or me. They were born on American soil, work hard, want to have good lives and want their families safe. They aren't safe right now.
In Mexico, there are a lot of cartels that control massive areas. Women are kidnapped and sold into the sex trade. This happens here in the US too, but to a far lesser degree. Do you remember hearing how the American dream is for everyone? That foreigners come over to start over?
Your family did. It doesn't matter when or where they came from. They weren't separate from their kids when seeking asylum. Some of your families started illegally too. In a land where there are only two countries bordering us that are ALLIES we should have open borders.
We can still search for paraphernalia, we can protect ourselves, but the US is huge. Some of you forget that. It takes me 12 hours to get to one coast, 20 to the other. Almost no other country can speak of that much land. Most of it is unpopulated.
The only reason anyone is against open borders is pure racism. They don't speak our language. They're brown. They eat different. What about your family? Mine was German/Austrian. I guarantee they didn't speak English. They ate German food in an English nation.
Would you turn them away? No, because they were white. We didn't even turn away the Irish, and we HATED them. Because they were white. But our fellow Americans? They aren't welcome in a land where they feel safer. Just because they're brown.
I've hear it's because they're taking our jobs. No, they're working the same terrible jobs no one else wants to do. To get those jobs they have to get a visa. If they work without one, it's illegal and that's the employer, not them, that's breaking the law.
In WW2 we didn't even put the Germans in internment/concentration camps. We saved that for the Japanese who attacked us and were allied with the Germans. Because they weren't white. This is the land of the free, home of the cowards.
