Is anyone else here godless but with a certain set of ideas to live by? When I'm asked if I have a higher power I reply that it's not supernatural but I have guiding principals I use to be a good person.

Evidence and compassion

I have had people tell me how easy it us to be an atheist because there are no rules. I responded that the truth is quite the opposite, a religious person can break rules, then ask for forgiveness and their slate is wiped clean. I, on the other hand, carry that with me and must do something to "make good" for it. I follow the golden rule, treat others how i wish to be treated, it tells you how to behave in every situation.

Any thinking and moral person forms and uses standards to guide his or her decisions and actions. Such action is necessary for a meaningful life.

I have two.

  1. Never compromise yourself.
  2. No ego satisfactions.

Isn't that a definition of altruism? Or perhaps even the major tenets of say, christianity, by proxy?

I try to treat humans at least a fraction as well as I treat animals !

I find humans to be far more of a challenge ...

Ethics/morality and religion are two completely things.

Nothing against you, but it's really tiring having to constantly explain that to people.

Don't believe theres a god out there. People want a something to pray to. Some kind of something that will be supernatural and take away a pain. I have a set of principles I use.

  1. Don't hurt anyone.
  2. Be kind.
  3. Try to listen.
  4. Try to understand.
  5. Teach children the good stuff.
  6. Don't hurt yourself.
  7. Take control when you need to.
  8. Allow others to have control.
  9. Be charitable.
  10. Save for your retirement so go to work.
  11. Honor and respect your wife.
  12. Honor and respect your neighbors .
  13. Defend yourself and protect others.
  14. Respect and honor your country.
  15. Respect your police and listen to them
  16. Follow the rules and laws of your country.
  17. Respect those that enter our country.
  18. Punish those that harm this country.
  19. Love all people unless they harm you and others.
  20. Teach your children this list.

well believe it or not satanism is athestic but has principles they live by . so are many buddhism believe it or not . ive studied and practiced both . i don't classify myself as satanist or buddhist because ive learned from both . ive also studied various atheistic philosophers and kinda made my own philosophy that works for me . so yes you can be atheist and still have morals or principles to live by . its a very common misconception that you need religion for this. u don't need religion religion needs u !

Interesting... cool.

Hm I think Satanism is a retarded excuse to be a beligerant dick..because you feel like it.

What's the difference between a philosophy and a religion?

Sure. Everybody has a worldview, whether they could articulate it or not.
