Sick of regular online dating apps, hopeful for this site, in the meantime how do you combat loneliness?

You could stop thinking of it a "loneliness" and think of it as priceless golden opportunities to do what You want when You want, clothed or not, tv remote in your hand, etc etc etc......after 2 marriages, both awful in different ways, i Treasure MY TIME with such gratitude!

It's not easy. I'm excessively good at interacting with people, but also the world's biggest introvert. Part of me really wants to get out and meet and connect with people; part of me wants just as much to stay at home.

Part of the issue I have, is the older I get, the more I realize that there is a really small sliver of people that I meet that I'm going to enjoy interacting with. I prefer meaningful connections and not superficial ones.

I try to keep an eye on what's going on with sites like meetup.com, but most of the activities involve hooking up with a crowd of people, which gives me the heebie jeebies.

I have a profile on a couple of dating sites, but was reading an article recently that said dating sites are not the best place to meet people. They indicated that having public access to people is the best way to make connections. So it looks like at some point, I'm going to need to leave the house.

Go to a class to learn dancing there is usually another person there that don’t have a partner that you can chat with and lean to dance with, then when you have learned how to dance then go to ballrooms and dance with other lonely people and make friends....just a thought....

I'm trying to just accept it. Like it was diabetes or something. So that lying in bed all day is part of the treatment.

Love after love - Derek Walcott

*The time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other's welcome,

and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life. *

I play bridge and listen to live jazz. Meet plenty of people that way.

I say go after a new skill. Something enjoyed by men. That usually means outdoors. Kayaking and scuba diving come to mind. Both are done in groups, and are excuses to travel. Mtn biking as well. Or even a dart league. The bars here will take anyone who shows up to throw every week, no matter how bad I am. And hanging out in a bar leads to flirting.

I have a cat and an 11 year old daughter. I’m seldomly alone.

I like to do something beach related. Rent a kayak, throw some tunes on, bring an ice cold drink. A dog if you have one.

Sitting at the same bar all the time. Can't drink as much anymore but the kitchen is good. When lucky, I get to enjoy pleasant conversation. There is always something to discover from anyone on any given day

I don’t think it’s particularly healthy to live alone. If you don’t have family, you may want to take on renters even if you don’t financially need to. You could choose people based on who you would want to hang out with

Luckily I have my kids to stave off loneliness but sometimes I do crave some adult attention!

Question: Hey. I'm here in the middle of the desert dying of thirst.
Answer: find some water.

Perhaps a local card club,do you play bridge, poker,or other card games? Thought of volunteering at a local Hospital? They need Docents to push people in wheelchairs, and other to interact with small children in the care centers.

I write, therefore I can have any conversation I want with my characters. I also, turn any conversation I have had with my friends, into a short story. Keeps me busy for hours.
