I should rephrase my statement, just about any heavyweight boxer from the older days of boxing could beat any heavyweight now

I was an avid reader of magazine "Sport" thanks to a 10 year gift subscription by my godfather... yes I said godfather. About 3 or more months before his demise in Japan to Buster Douglas... Dundee was asked if the unbeatable mike tyson could be defeated by anyone. The great Dundee said... "of course, it will be a taller boxer with good footwork, too heavy to be pushed around by tyson, a nobody that will go into the ring with nothing to loose and no chance to win that will box tall". By then, tyson's corner was ran by amateurs that were afraid of him. With no boxing creed. Those who saw the fight noticed those guys were using water balloons to treat swelling instead of the by then common flat metal to slide the swelling. Dundee was asked earlier to work with him and Dundee said... "No, he is a thug, a street bully". Most guys he faced, granted were afraid of him before the got on the ring. That is very hard to overcome if you don't believe you can win. tyson had his time... but his time is gone, he will have a hell of a time punching those 250 pounders of today. Those 6'7" giants of today. Punching up you lose power. Well, there is no point on discussing this any further... boxing is a fucked up sport as it is... without our help.

When Tyson and buster fought he wasn’t in his prime he was skipping training while in Japan and doing a bunch of drugs, and buster was saved by the bell we can’t forget that part. If Tyson was focused on his training and not messing around he would have beat him, I mean I don’t think he’s the best heavyweight ever I mean I’m a huge fan of The great Ali and Marciano (the greats)

I mean I could be wrong I mean I used to be a boxer and I can tell you that stranger things have happened in the ring, now I wasn’t alive for it so I could be wrong about Tyson but the way I see some of these bums fight now, I can’t help but think Tyson could beat them (the older fighters definitely could)

@bobby1 You were not around for any of those names you drop, you can not change or revise history... he was considered in his prime until that loss... Son, all athletes that use drugs or fuck a lot or drink a lot or party a lot.. they do it during their prime too. Any Major Dude Will Tell You. Doc Ellis threw a no-hitter tripping on LSD. Babe Ruth and Micky Mantle were constantly drunk. Carlos Santana Epic Soul Sacrifice Performance on Woodstock was under LSD too. The reason of the "no mas" Leonard-Duran fight result was the strategy created by Dundee. He knew Leonard could not beat Duran on Duran terms so after his victory the strategy was give Duran enough time to party and get out of shape offer him a lot of money for a rematch too early for him get back in shape, he will go for the money. He did. I was alive when tyson lost, when Duran lost, when a 16 year old Wilfred Benitez defeated best boxer pound for pound at that time Kid Pambele. Saw all Ali fights, Frazier, Foreman. I saw the 3 greatest rounds of Boxing ever Haigler-Hearns. Hell... my son was the Mexican Flag Bearer during the last Pacqiao Marquez fight in Vegas, he dressed in Manny's dressing room. I will post his picture with Manny's robe one day if I can find it in my HD. Is good that you read but you can not believe everything you read. As far I am concerned they can end the sport tomorrow. No other sport has an agenda to give a concussion to the oponent.

@bobby1 I don't say that every heavyweight knows how to fight but those big russians way over 2 meters long will give him trouble. Size matters. When Muhammed Ali was in his hey day and was unbeatable he tried to come up with the greatest fight of all time... him against NBA's Big Man among Big Men Wilt Chamberlain. He has to be convinced that Wilt Chamberlain was smart, 7'1" 275 pounds athlete that plays every minute of a 48 mins BB game. He was a shotput thrower in High School and college and what if he could take a punch? He was told a punch from a man that big can stop your heart. All it takes is one lucky punch to slow you down and you had never may ever be hit that hard and recover to box again. He may embarrass you. Ali got embarrassed by Bill Russell once during those days because Bill went to see him train and he started he wanted the Big Man pointing to Bill Russell, Bill went to the corner rolled up his sleeve and elbowed so hard the pole in the corner that it was as if the ring shaked, bill screamed at him..."when you are ready to fight me elbow to elbow let me know". In boxing the big man has the advantage. Notice you don't see little guys ala Frazier and Tyson around in the heavyweights anymore.

@GipsyOfNewSpain I like talking to you, you know your shit, were you a boxer?? Or maybe someone in your family? Or are you just a big sports fan

@GipsyOfNewSpain and you’re right size does matter having the reach over someone can make a lot of difference especially if that person has a shitty defense but I will tell you something that’s more important than physical Features, it’s mental I can tell you and multiple other boxers can tell you that 80% of the sport is mental, if a fighter doubts themselves and think they will lose there’s a 90% chance that will happen. Beating someone mentally can make all the difference in the sport.

@bobby1 In any sport not just boxing. Tyson was feared at that time. no socks, no robe. He created a persona and he had some skills too and his famous saying... "everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth". He came after an era of colorful heavyweights, Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Holmes, Spinks, Norton.

@bobby1 Okay my R.I.P. brother was a golden globe champion once in Puerto Rico. Boxing was the first sport I remember practicing as a child before baseball or basketball... the older guys will bring those 16 oz gloves and with no mouthpiece we will box in the street. But I had too much respect for the beauty of my face to think getting on the ring with somebody else to flatten my big nose... nope... but I learned to respect the sport as so many idols in Puerto Rico found fame and fortune in boxing. And in an era were fights were pay per view in U.S.A. in Puerto Rico were on regular TV. And if they put it in a theater as pay per view... nobody showed up. So only way to make money in the island was to let a beer or rum distiller to sponsor the fight on TV. That was before cable of course. Thank You for the compliment.

@GipsyOfNewSpain I respect anyone who has a love for sports especially this sport I hold it close to my heart, and I know how boxing is in Puerto Rico some of the best boxers I have ever met were from there, they’re great fighters and have a huge love for the sport, my moms boyfriend was from Puerto Rico and he used to tell me all about the love for boxing and baseball from there

@bobby1 And Puerto Rico is the "Black Hole" of this earth when it comes to real football you know? Soccer. Never happened. And my daughter was an awesome player when I was living in Spain while in the Navy. I used to pay my kids for accomplishments on the field like 5 bucks for a goal. Also in baseball for extra bases, draw a walk, stole a base, drive in a run, great intelligent fielding. Sports are our first real fantasy.

Mike Tyson was a good fighter. His problems came about for many reasons and one was the death of his trainer. They were pretty close. I've watched a few of his documentaries and they were spot on. I thought he was as honest as the day is long.
These days I enjoy his "mysteries" cartoon show. Nice adult cartoons.

Okay. And then again in his prime he got the fuck knocked out by an unknown nobody Buster Douglas. Think about that my boxing expert.
