I agree in a sense. It is often a justification for war, but often the real cuase is that one side has what the other side wants. Conveniently the religion is different,l so they use that to riel up the troops. The real mos common cause of war, is a profit for those in charge. Religion is the most often used excuse for war, but the main reason is usually profit and spoils.

As an example, the wars in the Middle East are mostly all about who controls the oil, but religion is used as an excuse to make war there.

I think capitalism is. War is lucrative. But is partially a by product of capitalism. Nationalism too.

The big 3.....Religion, greed, and racism.

Man, throughout history, have used religion to control those into giving him power. So I would think that the number one cause of war would be man. And, again, it was man who was stupid enough to have allowed themselves to be led into that arena of control.

I'd give it a very close second. I believe in the current world condition it's economics.

I feel like it's probably the number one excuse to justify war not the number one cause.
