'The recent meeting in Singapore between Trump and Kim Jong Un was certainly instructive. Russian officials took note, Andrey Kortunov, the director of the Russian International Affairs Council, told me. “Putin looked at the Singapore summit and saw that Kim was able to lower the threat to himself with minimal cost, and is sure to think, ‘Am I any worse, or what?’ ”
Singapore aside, Trump has generally shown that he is both malleable and ignorant—an ideal combination for someone like Putin, who will surely try to dazzle Trump with details like those he rolled out for his meeting with Obama... Yet what makes Trump the most understandable and attractive American interlocutor Putin has ever had is something more fundamental: namely, Trump’s zero-sum, utterly transactional view of politics. The primacy of interests over values—or rather, a rejection of the idea that the former might have some relevance for the latter—mirrors Putin’s own view of the world. Klimov told me that previous U.S. Presidents, particularly Obama, were driven by a belief in the “universal virtue of the American system”
...But Trump, he told me, sees “politics as business.” With values out of the way, everything is tradable.'
Trump will make Putin his bitch
Right. Absolutely. Everything points that way.
(I've been meaning to ask, how's the weather on your planet?)
@moNOtheist What you don't understand is Trump is a genius, and hes a gifted negotiator.
Trump made more progress with NK than any President in history - the same will happen with Putin.
@gater And what you don't understand, it seems is pretty much, anything. He gave Kim Jong Un (and Xi Jin Ping and Putin) exactly what they've long wanted - a suspension of US joint military exercises with South Korea - and got exactly nothing in return.
Some genius.
'North Korea has increased its production of enriched uranium for nuclear weapons at secret sites in recent months, contrary to Donald Trump’s claims that it was “no longer a nuclear threat”, according to a new report.
NBC News quoted more than a dozen US officials familiar with the intelligence assessments. Coming soon after satellite images showed rapid improvements being made to a North Korean nuclear research facility at Yongbyon, the developments will make it harder for Trump to claim that his summit with Kim Jong-un in Singapore this month was a success.
Neither of the concessions the US president claimed Kim had delivered – the destruction of a missile engine testing site, and the repatriation of the remains of US soldiers killed in the Korean war – has materialised so far.'
@moNOtheist We got nothing? We got 3 hostages, we have a signed agreement for them to denuke, we have peace on the Korean peninsula. All because of Trump - And cancelling the War games saves us a fortune. I saw the satelite pictures - they show nothing. Why don't you face reality and give Trump the credit he deserves?
@gater The reality is, the hostages aside (and no arguing that their return was most welcome) the list of bullet points that passes for an agreement was less than was won back in 2014, the cancellation of the "war games" (they're not, other than in the eyes of North Korea) don't save us a fortune but do lower US preparedness on the Korean peninsula (which only serves the interests of Kim Jing Un, Xi Jin Ping and Putin), and you're well practiced at interpreting satellite photos - better than our own intelligence officials?
'Over the past seven months the North Koreans have conducted no new missile or nuclear tests. But NBC quoted a US official briefed on the latest intelligence as saying that uranium enrichment had been stepped up.
“There’s no evidence that they are decreasing stockpiles, or that they have stopped their production,” the official said. “There is absolutely unequivocal evidence that they are trying to deceive the US.”
It has long been suspected that the North Koreans have established a uranium enrichment plant in at least one secret site apart from Yongbyon complex.
“There are lots of things that we know that North Korea has tried to hide from us for a long time,” a US intelligence official told NBC.'
Don't believe everything that Trump or Fox News tells you.
@moNOtheist So who is this mythical US Official? And don't you think the Pentagon knows whats going on? NK is broken, they've seen, with Trumps help what they could be, with resorts along their beaches - and Trump would nuke them if they didn't play ball. Don't you get that?
