Is anyone else concerned about "Agent Orange's" pick for SCOTUS? I can't help but to think about this everyday, it's rather unnerving. The separation of church and state feels like it's slipping away...maybe I'm overreacting, but I don't think so. Goodbye Roe vs. Wade and equal human rights (not that we seem to respect human rights much)...hello back alley abortions and, oh idk, stoning to death? Attached a link to Politico: [politico.com]

I think we can call it somewhere between if we let this train gain momentum. Don't think there is gonna be back alley abortions or stonings, but there might be some temporary infiltrations of the wall between church and state with the introduction of this "Religious Liberty Task Force" nonsense.

It is true that the.evangelicals are bent on a defacto if not actual repeal of the First Amendment separation clause. However, I do not think the next appointment to the Supreme Court will represent that big a change. Kennedy was somewhat liberal on social issues but he sided with the corporate right on the Citizens United decision. That set up what may turn out to be a democracy-busting structure, where the fix is in and big money decides the outcomes of elections. And who has the money these days? It's an international oligarchy with big fish like Vladimir Putin, Carlos Slim, and small fry like Sheldon Adelson and Steve Wynn, and wannabes like Donald Trump. None of these guys really gives a s**t about embryos or women's rights. They just want to exercise power and have their egos stroked. They are robber barons, and they want us to be their serfs. The evangelicals think they are using the Trump to further their agenda, but they are just dupes. That does not mean that parts of the evangelical agenda will not go forward. But if they get what they want they will also pay a price. They will be a more impoverished, disease-ridden, and poorly educated underclass.

Absolutely. He will most certainly choose someone who will advance the conservative X-tian agenda. The current administration has church/state separation under direct attack. This is why every single member of this site should support the Freedom From Religion Foundation, not not just in word, but financially. Become a member.

Shame on those folks that didn't vote because they were being pissy. I expect stupid white males to vote the way they vote. I expected the women to be smarter given the stakes for their daughters and granddaughters. That decision could have dire consequences for decades.

I am extremely worried. Trump did not pick these people. The Heritage Foundation, which is an ultra conservative, evangelical Christian think tank, who has an agenda of overturning Roe v Wade. Roe v Wade is based on privacy rights, rights of consenting adult's sex lives, LGBT rights, right to unmarried women to use birth control, and several other rights. It is in grave danger. Their other agenda is to make America a Christian nation. Have christianity in government and public schools. They would be required to teach creationism as science, and bible classes for all students. Trump could care less. He just sucks up to evangelicals for their vote. Their adoration and thinking he was ordained by God doesn't hurt either, since he has a huge requirement for adoration. His weakness and childishness are in constant need of adoration. Our country is in grave danger.
