Several people are referencing Sam Harris. What is his main tenet or tenets?
Free will is an illusion. Live with Radical Honesty. Rational deconstruction of issues within respectful rational conversation is the antidote for our current divisive toxic culture. Ego is an illusion. Consciousness emerges from ordinary matter. Organized religion causes a lot of problems. Meditation and psychedelic substances(with restraint) expand consciousness in ways that can improve quality of life. There are rational reasons to act morally/ethically that are far superior to the fear of punishment from god.
And lots more
I could not agree more with your second sentence. One more thing that would make this world a better place -- if everybody practiced that.
There is a problem of him giving a platform to white supremacist 'science', from an article I've read. Some people are not happy with him. But there are others who are worse, like Pinker and Peterson. The alt right love Jordan Peterson. He's the new messiah.
I don't admire those who are regularly paraded in front of us: Jordan Peterson, Richard Dawkins, Steven Pinker et al. They all have this subtle but nasty, right wing, misogynistic, Islamaphobic vibe going on.
My favourite atheists are Seth Andrews and Matt Dillahunty.
Thanks Ella. I agree whole-heatedly. I wonder if the Dawkns et al. circus is no different to Benny Hinn and his ilk. When the messenger is more prominent than the message there is potential disaster on the tracks ahead. Each trying out-ego the other.
You've just done what you've accused me of. You've assumed I've read one single article and nothing else.
You have no idea how much reading I've done on this subject.
I've posted on this subject today.
Little known fact about Sam. His mom created The Golden Girls.
Really! Eeeek! Susan Harris. Of course.
I never knew that. I like the Golden Girls.
