What's worse is that Sacha was taken seriously by the Conservative politicians.

Which was Sacha's entire point, of course. This follows the Juvenalian satire example of Jonathan Swift's 1729 "A Modest Proposal," which suggested taking care of the Irish overpopulation problem by eating Irish children.

This satirical proposal was also taken seriously by the British government at first, and they weren't happy to realize they'd been duped.
