I have noticed a significant positive correlation between the religious (beliefs not supported by facts but supported by fear based assertions) and support for Trump. For instance, at my school, there are thee teachers who support the Trump. Two are hard-core (Noah's flood is real, god will punish the world if you allow gays people to flourist etc.) theists and yesterday the third Trump supporter admitted to me that she established her life interpretation of the world based on religious founded fear. Years ago I was instrumental in freeing the mind of a Catholic. Later he (and another similar person I freed from his version of Christianity) thanked me because they were no longer living in fear of things like hell or people that were not like them (colour, religious beliefs, sexual orientation etc.) Do you think religion promotes fear? Do you think there is a positive coordinator between those that live their lives in fear and support for following Trump?

I am agnostic, and I think Trump is about as good as most. Politician's are mostly corrupt liars that will do just about anything to get elected. Then lie and self serve, and lie some more, and make more money. On the other hand politicians albeit it is a tough job, but they fought hard to get it, so go figure on that. I just can't see through good vs. Evil, right or wrong paradigm any more. It's just different shades of the same color. Whats gets me most is the only people who prophet in these ventures are the news media, and they laugh all the way to the bank as they polarize and con us! This information saturation is a mean machine....

You think Trump is as good as most? You may be suffering from Corporate Media.

The Ruling Class has invested millions to convinvce good Americans that politics has cooties. Then, they play dirty to prove it. Politics controls everything in our civic life - don't be afraid of it. There are honest players and we need to support them before they go extinct.

@BitFlipper I don't watch the news

@Leutrelle well you got your distrust of politics from somewhere.

@BitFlipper I am curious, who do you think is an honest player?

As good as most? What the hell does that mean? As far as I can tell, he is in it for profit.

@JanGarber He is as good as any president in my life time, and probably better than some.

Religion USES fear to manipulate people. Now from there to get Trump supporters involved in this is an stretch. I voted for Trump for very specific reasons.....and no one has to do with religion. Remember, he will be President only once....and I hope it will be enough to accomplish what I and many others voted him to do.

You go girl🙂

I can understand voting for Trump out of fear, but I can't see any other reason unless you're a billionaire. Why would you do that?

@BitFlipper Obviously you don't understand anything. I already stated why I voted for him.

Sorry DUCHESSA, but I don't see your reasoning here. Did you post it in another thread?

@BitFlipper I "believe" so. Sorry.

religion promotes fear and obedience . trump provokes fear and greed. A great combo

It is not just fear. "True believer" evangelicals see Trump as a vehicle to advance the coming of the kingdom of God. The irony is that they would sell their souls to support an evil man to promote the coming of the kingdom of God.

. . . because they believe they have a first class seat to paradise. It always involves the desire to be superior to others ????

I am not sure I would say that. I think that they have simply staked so much of their lives, energy, and beliefs to the dogma that they believe they must do everything they can to make sure that their pipedream comes true.@BitFlipper

I agree with you. To me, most of religions that I have encountered are based on eternal damnation, if you don’t comply with the “rules” of the game. Manny people of faith believe to be moral one must be a member of the faithful. Though much of what is considered moral comes from religion, this doesn’t mean that one must have faith to be moral.

One does not need to be religious to have a conscience.

Many religious people feel strongly about patriotism, belief in God, and the idea that America is greater than any other country on Earth, and Trump appealed to those things in his campaign. People tend to support politicians or candidates who appeal to their values or ideology. My own ideology stresses a trust in science and critical thinking, and those are among the reasons I voted for Clinton and not for Trump. Trump appeals to the uneducated and the unintelligent.

In my comment about the kind of people Trump appeals to, I didn't mean to say that all Trump supporters aren't smart.

Delusions abound. Whether they be religion-based, or politically-based.
If someone is going to fall for the fantasy of there being an all-knowing, all-powerful sky-daddy, who loves them as long as they believe in him, they're definitely going to be extremely likely to fall for the lies of a con man who tells them only he can fix all their problems. Problems which were all caused by a mixed-race man, who wasn't even born in this country. And yes, he's back to that lie again.

Definitely trump preys on the fear of people being different-the LGBTQ community. black and brown people, non-believers, and the disabled.

And women

thank you for reminding me.

Absolutely. I find the current incarnation of the Republican party deals in fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of what is different. Which leads to control and power over those who give in to fear.
