Great idea.

What a great idea - and so simple! Thank you for this. I'm gonna do it & tell all my friends. So.etimes the simplest things are so overlooked - or not even seen. Let's all do this.

My town has exactly one lady homeless person of which I am aware...everyone knows her by name and an artist even did a really great painting of her about a decade ago.

But, anyhow, she also has about 30 family members in this town and a house she could go to if she wanted. She chooses not to do so...or take her medicine. Her family watches out for her but so do many members of the community. She always has fresh water bottles.

When I was working in Chicago as a corporate chef, I used to sneak a lot of food from the test kitchen out to the street for the local homeless people. I was always packing "old" food neatly for "placing in the dumpsters". Word got out and the dumpster would be swarmed about 20 minutes after I closed and left for the night. They took care not to come there during work hours so as not to get me in trouble. smile001.gif I have to say that I appreciated that!

I carry stuff in my car neatly tucked into baggies that I can pass out my front window. Each bag has a $5, disposable cleansing wipes, a mylar space blanket, and tube sox. It would be easy to add a snack bar to that as well. The bags are all in reach of the driver's seat. I also have a stash of $5 in case they look like the don't need the other supplies or too much of a rush to grab it.

Stick a $5 in there too, or bigger, maybe some plain sox and a comb. The purse and sanitary supplies is a good idea. I am going to go see if I have any old purses.

@sassygirl3869 I hope you don't mind but I would love to share this with everyone.

First I have two very good ex-wife's both are very good people. My last wife would every year look for good deals and buy stuff like warm gloves hats scarfs blankets and bath items as well as tooth paste ans brushes, all kinds of things that might help the homeless, she got her friends to bake cookies and make sandwiches, get this big containers for hot drinks which would hold coffee and hot water for tea or hot chocolate. We would all get in a two vans and go to Cincinnati, Ohio and spent the day giving the stuff out, and this was done around xmas time.
One year it was just myself and her went to Covington KY it was supper cold and we had trouble finding anyone, for a while, then my wife seen a homeless guy hurrying down this back street, she jump out of the car, I barely got the car to a full stop, she's got her arm full of this stuff running after him yelling, he's going faster cause he doesn't want anything to do with this crazy woman, I'm trying to catch up with her. well he stopped turned around a said real loud What Do You Want! she said I want to give you this stuff. The man melted is the best I can say. He could not believe someone would give him anything. he was so thankful that he cried. We went behind this building because of the wind and cold and we talked to him for a while.

Anyway if you can do something for the homeless they will appreciate it.
