I'm kinda surprised with the bountiful expression of arrogance toward religion(s). An arrogance that's coming from a community of people who admit/accept "not knowing" as a such a fundamental part of the human condition.

There's a huge difference between "not knowing," and "not understanding." I know there is a specialty in mathematics called Physics. I don't "understand" how that mechanism works. I know that our universe is here through a process of evolution, but I don't understand how many of those mechanisms work.

Yet if someone tries to tell me that we're NOT here through a process of evolution, They're claiming to "know" something that they don't even "understand," and it's not arrogance to point that out. We can reasonably "know" that the gods of humanity never existed. We have the mathematics and observations to show that. And when it comes to religion, it's not that difficult to spot someone who doesn't "understand" trying to convince the rest of us that they "know."

What we can't "know" is the nature of the Universe itself. How aware is it of itself... if at all? Sagan said that we were the Universe studying itself. What does the Universe see, if this is true. Will the Universe learn from our experiences? Can we teach the Universe compassion if it's observing us? Of all the questions we keep asking ourselves, the one answer that seems to elude us is... "why?"

Interesting read. You are quite the thinker. Don't you think Sagan inferred that we were part of the Universe and one group of thinkers in the Universe? I don't know, but believe that there is high probability of intelligent life in the Universe other than on our planet who have many of the same questions. Cheers

Everyone here is different. Some were Believers and just finding us. Why are you judging? This is a Freethinker website.

I do have a perceived arrogance against sky fairy believers but each and every believer in the boogieman in the sky is arrogant in their beliefs against the other believers of different invisible sky daddies.

I'm just perceived as arrogant in my belief that they are all stupid.

Where do you see this "bountiful expression of arrogance". I certainly haven't seen it on here. I have seen carefully reasoned posts(and some not so) challenging the arrogant claims of religions that they love to force upon others.

Personally, as an agnostic atheist, I know that none of the claims made by theists meet their burden of proof. I also do not believe the claims that the Loch Ness Monster exists. Or unicorns.

I suspect that no-one on this site is saying that we know for certain that no god can exist in any circumstance. But personally, I am prepared to say that due to the lack of credible evidence given by the major world religions to support their claims, I know that their gods do not exist.

If that is what you mean by arrogance, then guilty as charged. 🙂

If there is any question, there is no question. Why is it a part of the human condition? I submit religion is an accident of birth, the result of the parent's need to conform due to fear of authority. Arrogance is an expression of authority. Disbelief is not arrogant, it is rational.

well you shouldn't be. I find religion to be of little use now we have science to celebrate

I'm not surprised. Religion/cults have caused a lot of damage to a lot of people. Some have suffered more than others and that is reflected in their comments.

If there is a creator of this universe then I know for a fact that it is not the "god/s" that some writer/s made up and the religious institutes it inspired.

I think it’s more Arrogant to claim to be on speaking terms with the grand creator of the entire universe, and to know what he wants. Than it is to say “I don’t believe you” when someone makes such a claim. What do you think is arrogant about the people in this site?

I have yet to see any arrogant comments on this site. I’ve seen some comments ridiculing things that should be ridiculed.

the name of the site is Agnostic but there are a lot of atheists here. Also a lot of people in recovery from religious abuse that speak their minds

@hankster no offense taken. I have thought the same thing many times but have read enough posts . THought I would save you some time. You can block people if you want to go to their profile if it really bothers you but it is a frequent theme

Not all of us say we "don't know".

@hankster No worries. Just wanted to make a point. I've never seen anything resembling credible or verifiable evidence as to the existence of any god, ever. Unless and until, I will maintain that no such being(s) exist anywhere except in people's imaginations.
