many things to consider here.

  1. Cost of living
  2. Cultural match with your lifestyle and politics
  3. Wages and demand for your trade
  4. Geographic preference (Mountains, lowlands, water)
  5. Proximity to family
  6. Is this a short term or long term plan
  7. Urban verses rural

Thats all i got. Good luck 🙂

depends on what you're looking for. Vermont is very liberal, if that's your thing. NY, NJ and CT are are within commuting distance to NYC (at least some parts), and if based on what you do for a living I'd imagine that would be your best bet for union work. I hear North Carolina is nice, but I'm a born and raised north easterner, so...

I didn't say they were liberal, I said Vermont was.

Texas -- construction and oil are booming

No don't do it! But seriously...have you thought of Oregon or Washington State?

@Humanistheathen I hear good things about both places from Californians who have moved there.

I suppose welders can find work anywhere. I don't know that I would want to leave California.

@Irish-welder that is super low...depending on your certs, you should make $50 to $100 doing welding and fabrication

@Irish-welder You need to get the Union check out special effects, props fabrication in the Entertainment Industry. It pays more than double that. Probably triple. Plus great benefits. I.A.T.S.E. Local 44.

Get a job before moving.

@Irish-welder
Then moving east should be a piece of cake. Just go where you get the best offer to cost of living ratio. Good luck

Which east coast? The one we have now or the one we'll have when you are my age?

Avoid New York. It’s like the highest taxed state in the nation

@Irish-welder I was born and raised in New York

It would be helpful to know more about your hobbies, interests, career, preferences (urban vs. rural) to make a recommendation. Do you prefer snow skiing to water skiing for example. Avid hiker and tent camper vs. beach bum?

@Irish-welder Ok, so cold weather cities tend to be a lot more expensive. I've lived up and down the Eastern seaboard. I would recommend you consider Annapolis, Maryland and Portland, Maine.
