It has been discussed, and I wonder if people understand what love is, even from other species.
This is terrible, yet incredible.

It's curious to me how we humans are finally recognizing the intelligence exhibited by animals in their grieving. I saw a video years ago about a herd of mule deer which showed the grieving process of a mother deer whose calf died a relatively short time after birth.

Oh wow...

Most do not. The animal world is full of love that we as people refuse to recognize.

I understand what love is. I also understand, to a degree, what biological drives are.

Thank you for sharing .

I think it is amazing how the brains of females are so wired to care for the young. This is beautiful and sad, thanks for sharing.

i understand from a survival point but to be so to suffer so much pain. when they die or go. that I do not get

It's "an intense feeling of deep affection". That would generally be based on social reciprocity, or at least on anticipated or hoped-for social reciprocity.

I agree with @jacpod. Love is the absence of fear. It is also the unconditional acceptance of another exactly as they are. I have no doubt in my mind that other animals can experience love and a range of emotions.

My dog Sammie displayed the emotions of joy, boredom, sadness, fear and love. Some of the most true experiences of love with another being was with my dog Sammie. I suspect many dog owners would agree.

of course they do they all do.. I'm not sure about worms or ants. but pets bond so tightly. when my pets die I can't bear it

I have always held that love is the absence of fear - fear is a big 'stopper' love seems a big 'go-for- it! there was a set of short stories by some philosopher whose name I cannot remember one of them was a man was going to jump off tower bridge and a policeman saw it and knew if he tried to save him he too might perish but in the moment of weighing up he realised that this would endanger his whole sense of himself and his humanity - -they both survived.
