Hey everyone!
I'm an ex-muslim atheist from Pakistan. Still in the closet because I'd be killed for my beliefs lol. But it's better now since I moved to Perth about a year ago. People here don't care much about religion. At least not as much as back home. Anyway just wanted to say hi to y'all. Also, I'd like to know of there are any meetups happening here in Perth. Cheers!

Hey Zull, I lived in Pakistan for four years as a missionary's kid. It has always amazed me how many cultures tolerate and are even friendly with folks that follow different religions and gods, as long as they believe in something supernatural. Yet they are completely intolerant of those that are nonbelievers.
To clarify, I think you would be killed for your 'non belief', and not for what you believe.

Anyway, welcome to the site. We all hope to hear more from you!

Yes. The christian minorities may be discriminated against but they're not killed for their beliefs. They only seem to have an itch for non-believers.

Watch your back. Immigrant communities can be every bit as dangerous as back home.

Hey thanks for the advice. I'm closeted here as well. I don't really have many non-muslim friends so no one really knows about my atheism.

Good luck @Zull

Wow, you got away. I've never been to Perth, or to Australia, but it is my hope to visit someday.

Wow, I would love to hear more about your story! How did you get to Perth? Are you able to come out of the closet?

I'm currently on a student visa but I'm hoping to permanently settle here once I'm done with my studies. And no, I'm not out of the closet yet. It would break my parents to find that their only son is a non-believers. I intend to stay in the closet for as long as they are around, at least.

Sad that you can't be yourself, but I understand. Glad to hear that you are safe!
