This is something I deal with daily:

Those of you who have your real name known on here, are there any nicknames people give you that you dislike?

People always call me Alyx and I really don't like that name. My family and two best friends call me that, despite my protests, and they're the only ones I tolerate calling me that. People also try to call me Al or Ally and I don't like those either.

What are some of yours that you dislike?

My dad used to think it was funny to call me 'Michelle', instead of 'Michael'. Not responding or reacting was what worked best for me.

I used to hate being called Gracey. Nobody ever called me Gracey except for a now ex-boyfriend. He knew I didn't like it but he kept calling me that, saying that it sounded cute. It made me feel rather immature. But I've changed my mind about it. I now like it. But I insist that it's spelled Gracey not Gracie. When I feel like being silly, I sign myself as Gracey Lacey or Graceylou.

I hope Lady A is ok. I would stress the Lady. As for me, sale the whale, I cooked in a restaurant for a time, became chef-boy-rd, younlydonk, when I was in 6th grade, I found the best way to get a name you like is to start a rumor with the name mentioned, especially if you say you hate it. Oh, I forgot Bear, I once beat a guy in a nap contest.

Personally, it is almost impossible to insult me as my ego died. My attention span is so short, I loose track of the insult before it is out, I learned a long time ago that people are telling you something about themselves in the insult, not one's self.

I can't list names I am called that I dislike. It would result in a lifetime ban by the Administrators.

My first name is Randall, but everyone, save my friend Jonah, calls me Moose or variants of Moose; Moosai, moosey, moo-guy, goosey and so forth.

I don't care. It makes no difference to me. Different people call me different variations of my name. I find it endearing

I used to hang out with a woman who would call me Jen-nay (from Forrest Gump). Her intentions were good but it still bothered me to no end. Whenever I asked her to stop, she would reply "but I love you, Jen-nay". I am so glad I finally moved away from her neighborhood!

My cross country team would tease me for my hairy legs and call me Forest, and say “run forest, run.”

Just don't answer to it... 🙂

My name is Kristen, and though I think it's a pretty simple name to get right, I'd say that 80% of the time at restaurants they spell and say "Christine", "Christina", "Christian" (I hate that one the most), or one of a dozen other variants.
Is Kristen such a difficult name for people to process?

My wife was irritated by this constantly. She was a Kris too.

I wonder if it is a christian centric issue?

Alexandra (my name) has more short forms than any other. Almost everyone calls me Sandy, which I like but one couple has always called me Alex or Al and I don't think I will change that. The only saving grace, and no it's not much, is when we hear the Paul Simon song 'You Can Call Me Al' I can claim it's 'my song'. There are more important things I suppose but yes it is mildly irritating when people don't use your preferred form.

I have a friend with your name who also goes by "Maz".
No clue why?

I don't necessarily dislike the nicknames, I just don't recognize them so I don't respond right away. It only takes a couple of times of having to work to get my attention and people stop using the nickname. I don't do it on purpose.

What do you prefer? I hate having it done to me so let us know what you like for a shortened version (chat comes to mind which is when I do that).

I went with LadyA myself. But you might hate that.

LadyA is fine. I've also been called LA and lady. On Xbox I tend to get called Lady too.

@LadyAlyxandrea I am glad LadyA is OK, I gave refering to you that way no thought. I look at the Lady as a title. The title is Dame, I probably have this wrong. I think men are knights and women are Dame's or Lady. Anyway I mean it with respect, knowing it is a familiar, and perhaps I do not deserve to use it.

@dalefvictor it's perfectly fine lol I use it as a title myself
