What does having a master's degree mean in USA today? I met a uber driver tonight, she works three jobs (I think uber driving is the third job). She holds a Master's degree in a Field I didn't ask, but the frustration in her voice and body was just sound and vibrant as nothing else. He futurebin US, is in question. She plans to migrate to Sweden, just like many Americans with good academic qualifications, Europe and Japan is the future for them, so now I ask, what's the purpose of having a Master's degree when it cannot make you live your dreams or fetch joys?

one of the dilemmas is that far too often people study subjects because that they are keys to success. When they realise that the keys does not fit the lock to the anticipated career the frustration of those who just studied for the "open Sesame" are doubly frustrated because they wasted their time on a subject/discipline they are nit interested in.

The entire education system needs to be changed drastically. We need more tech schools to handle those who do not go to college. College needs to train people to step into a job and be ready to produce immediately. The idea of BA BS Masters PHD need to reflect the immediate need of the job market than it currently does. To go with this is the need to revise the courses taught and there value regarding the degree earned.I was required to take another language for my degree but I have never used it and it was just a waste of time.

Totally dependent on field. If it is science or technology, it should be useful, though not always much more than a Bachelor's.

I think the reason to get the Master's is to study what you are intrigued with.

A friend of mine enlisted in the Navy - he had a Masters in Archeology. If you're blending that degree with relevant experience, your career should be pretty safe, but to expect a good career because you have the degree alone is likely to set yourself up for disappointment, as there's a good chance that it'll be perceived as putting the cart before the horse.

It depends on what her degree is in...she could have a Masters in Fine Arts, and with limited job opportunities. Even with a Masters in Business, companies are looking for specific concentrations such as international business, computer science, economics, or accounting...everything seems to be be tuned in to specifics and not generalization. Some fields are just saturated...marketing...she might need to get a different concentration or change how she markets her skills to the job needs until she finds her perfect job. I have an MBA and when I first came out, I worked in social services....
