Because Earth had a gaseous atmosphere.
As the body of the Earth sorted itself into its constituent layers the more volatile compounds and gases found their way to the surface.You might say our atmosphere and the possibility of life itself,was the consequence of a vast terrestrial flatulence,risen from the bowel of the Earth.Our distance from the Sun was appropriate for reactions that led to the natural synthesis of the building blocks of life from carbon,water,nitrogen and a handful of other elements which were in plentiful supply.The trick of creation was not the exortism of the ingredients,but the ways in which they could be uniquely combined on Earth.This was the age of chemistry
