With all these religions where men have loads of wives isn't it interesting that we never see women with more than one husband? Even outside of religion women know better ?
I would've loved to see the conversation between Joseph Smith & his wife when he explained to her that Mormon would be permitted multiple wives, but women wouldn't be permitted multiple husbands. I've heard it didn't go over well.
Quite common in nature - Honeybees are a common example of a polyandrous behavior.
It does exist among human societies. Usually where resources (eg land) are scarce. Related males (brothers, etc) will marry the same woman.
Tibet, Bhutan, India, tribes in Africa (eg the Maasai), the Inuit, the Aleut, tribes in South America and in Oceania all have examples of polyandrous societies.
I don't even want one husband!
Amen to that!
Sometime back , I read that in Tibet , where the weather and the terrain make food supplies in short supply , that infant females are routinely killed off in favor of male infants . Which means , when the males reach adulthood , there are never enough females to go around . I read that due to the female shortage , that when a female marries , she also marries the her groom's brother (s) , as well . Don't know if that's true . But bearing in mind the one child law in China , which was put in place some thirty or so years ago , and their now over supply of adult males , it does make a kind of sense .
