My experience with disco goes as far as seeing Saturday Night Fever a few times. "You Should Be Dancing" is still one of my favorite songs.

I was in a rock & roll band then, too, and I hit the discos a few times, but most of that time I was already dating someone, so I didn't need to go find a woman. I still hate a lot of the disco.

Disco Music is great music to get hot and sweaty and get inhibitions lowered. ?

Disco was awesome. Dancing. Big hair. Having a great time. It was never meant to be great music. Disco was dancing and fashioning and laughing and having a great time.

I grew up in that era, an I still have to stick to my guns here and say I fucking hated disco.

Most of it was stollen from some great Funk bands, like the commadors, earth wind an fire, George Clinton and the parliment funkadelic,, and many more.

Alwaysy lovrd the funk, but I've alwayse hated disco.

I wasn’t around for any of it but I gathered the opinion that disco sucked when I was delving into classic rock too. But then I fell in love with funk, and realized that disco and funk weren’t too far apart: it’s a little simpler rhythmically, not as much synchopation and focused more on the 4 on the floor rhythm. A few more string samples and strong female singers but that diva spirit was sort of the point. It’s simple glittery dance music meant for grooving and when I realized how important it was to the women’s and LGBTQ scene in New York I had a lot more respect for it. Its a form of the punk rock spirit really. Waving your freak flag n not giving a good goddamn or a rusty fuck what anyone has to say about it. And that spirit makes anything groovy, whether it be hip hop or outlaw country. Even the Grateful Dead wrote a funk/disco song.

I still love disco. My sister and I loved to dance; and we made sure the guys that danced with us got lots of loving. The ones that said Disco Sucks would sit pouting on the sidelines - and we noticed that when they played rock those guys wouldn't dance to it either. They wouldn't dance to anything but slow songs. I'm sure they turned into a bunch of grumpy hateful old men who still won't dance - their loss!
