Well friends, this time it happened on Agnostic.com

Some of you may remember, several months ago, there was a young woman chatting with me who expressed interest in meeting me. And that turned out to be a money scam involving i-tunes Gift cards.

This time, a user (whose profile is now deleted) contacted me here, and after a week of chatting by email, started saying she'd moved to Africa, and now was in need of support/help.

So, now that I have a couple of these 'charming people' on my blocked list, I thought it might me useful to put out a few piecesa of information that I found to be similar between all of them...

  1. Lady is either a single mom, or a widowed mom of a small child
  2. so far, the 'child' they have has always been a boy with an unusual name (last was was 'Ezra' ) who is under one year old.
  3. There is always some reason for sporadic contact (i.e. phone was lost/stolen, out of subscriber time, etc...) and this often leads to the moment when they ask you for assistance.
  4. they express a desire to meet you early on - far too early for any sane person to want to dive in (especially if they have a small child)
  5. email or text responses will not directly respond to your last message text. I think they either skim for keywords, or have a bot do the skimming to construct something as a response that is just enough to make you wonder if the person is a real person or not.

Trust me when I say, they are not real. They are after money, and pull on heart strings to get it.

Fortunately, this post has nothing to do with ny post earlier today. I kinda felt from the get go that this was another scammer, so I played along to prove it.

At least my heart (and my wallet) are intact.

Thank you for putting this up as a warning to others. I can’t sympathise more with someone like you who is genuinely looking for someone to share your life with. I am an older woman who is only here for community so this sort of scamming will not affect me in any way, except to make me feel so sad that this sort of exploitation exists. When I told my sons that I had joined this site they both warned me about the possibility of conmen and their tactics, as this internet chatting is all new to me. I can see both men and women can be victims and am just glad that you didn’t get drawn in deeper.

Best advice is never be in too much of s hurry to get together. Get to know someone first via email and phone chats. And remember, if it sounds too good to be true...
