This article has given me pause. For one, is Canada this "land of Oz" people keep lauding when it comes to America as it stands now? Second, are any Canadian people willing to confirm that there's more opportunities to make something of yourself in Canada? Lastly, from a personal perspective, could I have made something of my own life if I were to have been born there? Not sure how it can be for Blacks, but I'd like to think that we're faring better. Not sure what the question is. The article states that this generation of Canadians is way more likely to make more than their parents, and that they have a more level playing field, fewer poor, fewer super rich, more equality. They are not stating an opinion, they are showing facts. And yes, it can be hard to get into Canada. But if you get there, you would have more opportunity.

@Stepmomofdragons Good luck, I blew several thousand applying to get in, but didn't "prove" I was in a committed relationship with a man to their satisfaction before gay marriage was legal. What did tbey want? A video? Anyway, I hear it is super common to get rejected the first time, so you better have lots of money to keep reapplying. There is one way you can get your foot in the door. It is supposed to be pretty easy to get a work visa to be an assisted living in home care provider (not a medical job). Then you can start applying after the first year of work for a permanent resident card.

I was born in Ontario and grew up in Manitoba. It’s incredibly diverse and my parents encouraged us to learn about other other cultures. Multiple languages are also taught in the school system. I never witnessed my minority friends being treated differently or disrespected like I witness here in America on a daily basis.. although I’m sure it happens in some more rural places. Canada per capita has the most educated populace. We have a three party legislative system. Generally speaking all three are on the left with varying degrees of liberalism. There really is no right wing party. We legalized gay marriage gay marriage about 15 years ago and the country is still standing. The most conservative province would be Alberta( Texas’s twin) except much prettier. No country is perfect but I dream of moving back all the time.

Canada is what this country should be. Except for the weather.

I live in Michigan and have family in Ontario. For now at least, Canada is a much more liberal place to live. Gay marriage. Legal weed. Free health care. I'm sorry I can't speak to the race issue. My pessimistic feeling is that it is still an issue. Less so??

I think some things are better and some are not. I have not been to Canada in quite awhile but I do have family there. Racial problems seem to be every where.

Very good question! I’ll be very interested to see any Canadian responses.
