Maybe. SETI has investigated a number of promising avenues, if anyone is out there they are laying really low. I suspect that intelligience like ours is an evolutionary dead end.

I believe there not being other sentient life in the universe is unlikely, but not impossible.The only time life formed that we know of is Earth. That's not a big sample size. A huge step toward a better understanding would be finding other basic life forms in our solar system. If one of the planets or moons has hints of life which developed independently from life o Earth it would be nearly impossible for there not to be other intelligent beings in the vastness of space.
