As the Papal visit to Ireland draws to a close we can reflect on how Irish people feel about what he said and how it has been received here. It was billed as a moment of renewal for the church a chance for the Vatican to show contrition. However many were left disappointed. What he said fell well short of the mark.
The Irish Prime Minister, Leo Varadker demanded action not words from the Pope regarding priestly child abuse. He told Pope Francis that “There can only be zero tolerance for those who abuse innocent children or who facilitate that abuse. We must now ensure that from words flow actions”. The Pope replied that the scandal was a “source of pain and shame for the Catholic community and must be eliminated this scourge at any cost”.
Every right minded person throughout Ireland and the rest of the world says no more platitudes it is now time for action. Put these criminals behind bars.
Plenty of apologies,but no commitment to bring those who covered up abuse to justice.
Same old, same old!
@Marionville Yip!
All I heard the pope do was to pray to god to forgive the church.
I suppose that means the entire sexual predator/pedophile ring, otherwise known as the Catholic Church, is absolved from guilt, and is free to carry on sexual exploitation without actual consequences.
There should be separation of church and state so church criminals will pay.
We should call these priests what they are, criminals and lock them and their enablers in the Vatican up. They would get a taste of their own medicine in jail.
