I'm planning to take my family to Costa Rica in January for a couple of weeks. Anybody been there? Got any suggestions or tips? We are snorkelers and hikers and museum prowlers mostly.

You can do a quick google search to find your favorite activities there.

I know how to google, but find individual advice from people who have actually been there to be more valuable. I have used Trip Advisor for years but am well aware of the more recent ballot stuffing practices on that site.

  1. Britt Coffee Plantation Tour.

Not a by the numbers tour. Very entertaining and good, clean family friendly fun.

  1. La Paz Waterfall and Peace Gardens

A hike through the rain forest that you'll never forget.

  1. Stay on the outskirts of San Jose, close to the airport. I've personally never had any major issues while staying in downtown San Jose, but somebody seems to get mugged every time I'm in town and comes back to the hotel bitching about their money and passport being gone.

  2. Take the hotel shuttles rather than the metered taxis. Some of the taxi drivers will try to run the meter up on you.

Good advice, thank you.

How's your Spanish?

Hola Amigo! No hablo espanol, pero hablo español turista. También yo hablo español chica bonita, mas o menos. Mis palabras primeras son "Ayudame! Ayudame! El tiburón tiene mis huevos."!! Muy importante.

@Donwhy Si. You got time, January is a long time from now. Your money will go long. Never been there but heard a lot of good things. I myself checking out a Spanish speaking country were to move to...Costa Rica is on the list. But because I had lived in Spain... Barcelona is number first on the list. Malaga, Benidorm... anything near the Baleares Islands. But I should check out Costa Rica. Before the big jump for sure.
