Soooo frustrated. I hired a guy to do my yard work two days ago. Walked him around the property and explained the difficulties it presents. He said he'd do the whole yard for 100$. Today comes and he does the easy parts then tells me it is a more difficult job than he anticipated and he now wants 200$ to finish the job. I told him to go fuck himself in not so many words. What an asshole.

My kid will do it for $20.

I wish y'all lived closer. I'm all gimpy and useless because I got hurt @work. I hate being helpless...

@OpposingOpposum Dang it. That stinks.
I hope you recover quickly.

@Donotbelieve thank you. It is a lesson in stating my needs and wants more clearly, I guess. Learning how much I need to be assertive, so thats a positive.

Good for you. When you do a job estimate, you need to know right then and there what it's worth to you and if you bid a job, that's what you are obligated for. If you low ball yourself, you'll have a lesson for the next time but it doesn't apply to this time.

Yep he is an asshole. I am having gardener drama right now too. Mine doesn't want to work but he doesn't want me to hire somebody else so he keeps saying he's going to do it… And then doesn't I've been waiting all freaking summer for some shit to get done. It's hard to find good ones.

Actually in some states one has to be licensed, bonded, and insured in order to work for others unless the owner of the property is willing to take on these responsibilities. That is the way it is in Oregon and Washington, and in Washington there is a tax concern.

Yelp is your friend.

It’s like you need to draw up a contract for even the minor crap!

3

Scam artist . As he only did the easy bits , hope you only paid him a third .

3

Middle school kids used to do that for 20 bucks. Just trying to suggest options. Mexicans are cheap and hard working dudes, if you don't mind hiring Jesus

You're right what an asshole. Good for you that you not let him take advantage of you.

If he completes the work, then pay him the agreed upon amount of $100. Otherwise, he gets nothing.

Well done.

Yeah small world I actually run my own landscape maintenance company and once you make a bid the bid is set there's no changing it the guy sounds like either a scammer or an idiot

I'm going with scammer as he made sure to tell me about his five disabled children....

@OpposingOpposum When they bring out the content for hard luck and tears that is their way of saying I would like the money and I won't do anything for it.

he's just a POS.

I hope you didn't pay him a dime.

Sounds like one of those yard ape scammers. Throw his ass to the curb and give him a bad review.

1

I hope you didn't pay him anything. He agreed to one price, if that's too much work he should not have entered into an agreement.

1

I see you have a strong opinion on the matter. How do you really feel.

1

That's a classic BS move. Glad you told him to stick it.

Wheres my 12 gauge. What a dick

I have experienced the same thing with a gardener / landscaper. I appreciate the profession as an honorable trade but come on, if you have reasonable smarts you will probably not be a gardener. Upping the price mid way through the job is simply a dumb ass thinking it is a clever form of negotiating. You will clearly never use that guy again and, in the future, make sure gardeners know the price they provide is comprehensive to complete the job.

When the price goes up haalf way through a job, with no written contract, that is telling you they want more for nothing.

1

That's very common in Florida. The scam usually works.

I have different workers I employ from time to time and I pay according to the difficulties of the task. They look at me funny when I pay them less for an easier job. I never hire any of them when my kids are around. I do this to err on the side of caution.

Did you get references on this guy BB? Try to find someone friends or family have used.
