Homo Erectus/Ergaster.
There is a difference in the literature concerning the appropiate classification of Homo Erectus in Africa and in Asia.Homo Erectus {sensu lato}is the term used to describe both the African and Asian population. The population in Africa is sometimes referred to as Homo Ergaster and the Asian population as Homo Erectus, sensu stricto. What is widely accepted is that the African population evolved in the Rift Valley from Homo Habilis, around 1.0 million years ago and subsequently spread into Asia.
In China, as recently as this century, Many scientists over there had convinced themselves they were direct descendants of homo erectus. I watched a BBC documentary with Dr Alice Roberts called 'the Incredible Human Journey' where this was discussed. After a large genetic testing study, It has been proven that we are all sapiens, with odd bit of neandathall, denisovian, erectus and other human species. Cross breeding did happen, but was rarely producing offspring that was fertile
and neanderthals were walking the earth at the same time. in fact we have between 1 and 9% of their dna
Actually it's not like that. 1 to 5 percent people have neanderthal dna too. Not all has. It means interbreeding was not so rampant just once in a while occasional fucks ended up in fertile offsprings.
Everything was local; this should be standardized. For example, we now use Marine Isotope Stages to describe glacials and interglacials; but they all have their own local names. Middle Stone Age in Africa is Mesolithic in Europe and Asia.
But in this case, why do I seem to recall that H. erectus or H. Heidlebergensis made it to Europe first?
From something Iread ages ago Homo Ergaster spread towards Europe and Asia and middle east,Neanderthals evolved from the Ergasters who went to Europe and those that went to ME or other parts of Africa became homo sapiens, but as my memory is not clear on that an input by fellow Agnostics would be helpful.
