I can’t remember if I saw it here or on FB, but someone posted a suggestion on how to deal with racist jokes in a less confrontational way, which could come in handy while at work or somewhere else you can’t slap someone upside the head and ask wtf is wrong with them.

The suggestion was, when someone says something casually racist, say: “I’m not quite sure what you mean by that. Could you explain it to me?” The thought is that most people who make these jokes are counting on people laughing or just staying quiet. Asking them to explain forces them to state their racism in plainer terms and, hopefully, embarrasses them. I haven’t gotten to try it out yet, which is actually a good thing, I suppose.

It definitely exists. It's generated out of ignorance and fear. It serves absolutely NO useful purpose !

A while ago I did volunteer work for a “Christian” organization. One day a friend of mine came to this organization to present work on a group helping abused women. She was African American. I met her at the door to greet her because I thought she might be a little uncomfortable with all of the white bread in the room. I hugged her and kissed her on the cheek. After the meeting several of these Christian women came up to me to ask me “where do you know HER from...you kissed her cheek?” They were mortified that I made physical contact with a black woman. ...and when I was still working...in Big Pharma...I hired two African American women...because of their superior qualifications...which is the only reason for hiring a candidate in my opinion. I was known as the only manager in my division who satisfied EEOC requirements. I do not volunteer for the Christian organization any more and I am happy to be retired from Big Pharma. I am disgusted by racism. It exists. The people who call themselves Christian are the worst racists. Corporations are. It far behind. I cry over this!

Just saw Black Klansman. Made me ashamed. Things have changed but not nearly fast enough! It kind of blows me away to realize I was a teenager in the early 70's and being a white suburban kid, I was completely oblivious to how much racism was still accepted. My senior year in high school, in the middle of the year, a black kid transferred in. I never met him (class of 600 and I was pretty shy.) Nobody ever talked about it that I heard. I always thought he must have been brave and more than a little lonely.

Americans have such a weird take on racism, it exists everywhere but Americans take it to some weird next level.

USA made racism a national past time!!!! Well, what america did was instead of nationalize racism... ameriKKKa institutionalized racism instead. I did not learned the meaning of the word "nigger" until I was 27... I had to join the Navy to learn that word, despite been born an american citizen and visiting NYC every summer... the word "nigger" never came up here or there... as a matter of fact in Puerto Rico it is a term of "endearment" to call someone in Spanish... "negro" even if you are blond with blue eyes... your lover will call you "negro or negra" because you are adored. Then ameriKKKans came in and... The Rest is History! And yes... there is a lot of Puertorricans with blond hair and blue eyes with Dutch, German, French last names. Specially in the middle of the island... where their ancestors settled while the Spanish settled in the coast along with the slaves from Africa.

A strange read but it did send some shivers down my spine.

Human, the apex predator, is the most ruthless animal that has ever existed.
