Better being warned and be prepared than not knowing at all. We have been taking weather forecasting for granted a little too much in the last decade. It is still somewhat a guessing game at the micro level. There is so much energy in these storms that they are not uniform in intensity.
Florence is right behind Gordon and now a Cat 3 hurricane (predicted to get worst).

Weather men and women are expected to give out the most damning situations and possibilities.
I have found doing my own weather, using their radars is more accurate, and up to date.
