Who are we? Atheists are not a cohesive culture. Its like saying we’re a religion. If religion were a sport we would be in the non-bowling league. No one would show up on league night. You can’t make generalizations about us as much as even I would like to.

We are a minority, still discriminated against in the western world, and punishable by death in much of the middle east for speaking honestly about what we do and don't believe. For that reason alone, it's worth finding each other, since some of us won't have met or spoken another atheist in person.

I think one of the worst things atheists could do would be to "organize". Of course, others can do whatever they please, but I certainly won't be joining.

We are humans. We do not believe in God. We eat and pooh. We are not a religion as we by definition do not fit any of the criteria. We tend to be humanist. We have fewer children. We are higher educated. We are literally scientifically proven to be smarter. We tend to be more liberal than conservative. We tend to be more accepting of lgbt rights. We are less inclined to be racist.

No generalizations can be made about us no matter what the facts say.

Membership in political parties, racist organizations, gangs, or even green piece or PITA have nothing to do with ones religious beliefs or non belief. Wheter one does or does not believe in God is its own issue. There can be horrible people whom do not believe in God or great compassionate people. Unfortunately, religion does have the power to make good people do bad things. Atheism is a stand alone issue, what people do is another matter.

We are all individuals. Different wants and needs. We don't need a leader. We can share ideas.

We are a marginalized, growing minority of people who have one thing in common, we don't believe someone when they claim gods, or a god exists. That's the facts.

As a group we tend to be more charitable, less likely to go to prison, more likely to be intelligent, less likely to get divorced and just all around have better critical thinking skills.

The thing I hate most about ID, IC, CS people is that there is always a straw-man "atheist" in any argument.
