So my fundie christian MOTHER has told other members of the family that she hopes this hurricane we are experiencing (I have had to evacuate) will "scare" myself and my sister so "the atheists will come back to GOD." I am kind of at a loss. What mother wishes harm to her children, physical or emotional, to push them into some kind of salvation? How fucking selfish is that? If anything, this Florence has caused me to get closer to science, to learn more about the destructive forces, and plan better for future events. I hate my mother right now.

That is messed up. I am sorry you have to hear such cruel things coming from your mother. One of my friend’s adult daughter tells him and his grandkids that grandpa’s going to hell because he belongs to the wrong christian church. I just shake my head at all of them. I hope that the hurricane isn’t too hard on you and your sister.

Is it beating up on her also? If so what the hell is god doing going after her?

No, she is safe and happy in her little community in Iowa, surrounded by others that think like her. She even preaches off and on at a local church. I am trying to get her to do a DNA test, as I swear we are not related.

That's sad...but typical. I would call her out on it and tell her she is a sorry mom and pathetic Christian for wishing harm and pain on anyone, esp. her children.

Holy shit. "thanks Mom" ...

take care !

Wow. Sorry that you're dealing with that in addition to having to leave your home! If it were me I would be beside myself. But I would try to concentrate on getting myself back on target and dealing with all the other stuff later. One difficult situation at a time. And deep breaths...

Religion causes people to abandon rational thought. She probably hinks she has very "good, loving" thoughts. That is why it is important for us to be here and speak out.

well if she is truly fundamental in her belief you must know god comes 1st always and forever you can't change that only she can many families face this more so children than parents but either way i doubt any has been happy with the situation good luck

that's motherly love for ya.

has she not realized how many times people have blamed atheism, homosexuality, short skirts or WHATEVER for natural phenomena that have very clear, well understood causes, and then found that people who did not fit any of those descriptions ALSO had to suffer through them? nope: cognitive dissonance at work.

I was blocked from the local FB group for just exactly this. Someone said that there was "too much sin" in NC, and this was god's way of punishing. I went off on her, and was blocked. It is so sad, how much damage is done by their system of beliefs, and complete unwillingness to simply accept science and fact.

@John-Paul whoever blocked you was no big loss to your life, sounds like! logic isn't accepted everywhere but don't give up.
