Anyone interested in doing a reading group. We all read a scholarly article or interesting novel, for example, and discuss it?
I would be interested but more for novels than scholarly articles. I had spent the better part of my life in academia reading and writing scholarly works. Have had enough of those.
Divided here, some like novels, some like articles. Probably the optimal way is to alternate.
I'm down! Current favorite fiction novel: The Martian.
Sounds interesting - but depending on the topic - I may be able to contribute close to nothing useful to a group discussion.
maybe if my time was not already filled with school
We learn by stretching our intellectual muscles. I will have an article on gender to start but people may suggest whatever they like too.
haa reminds me of the gender online class I have
@benhmiller Great to hear. Gender is in my research area and I have taught gender.
@orange_girl Fantastic to hear!! I look forward.
Fellow heathens, how should I post the article for reading? I am looking for a dropbox or attachment here but do not see one.
@CrazyQuilter I have a number of articles on my computer. I could use them, but need a site to use. If someone wants to offer, then I can send the article.
@agnosticbuddhist I teach at a university and am a research fellow at another, so I also have plenty of access. You could certainly post as well. My issue is how do we post articles here? Thanks!!
@agnosticbuddhist Thanks, I have plenty of articles on my computer.
@agnosticbuddhist Thanks for the update. As long as password protected, free use remains from what I understand as a faculty member.
Sounds groovy. Oops, I'm showing my age. What's the word now? Rad?
I will say extraordinary or ethereal.
@orange_girl So, I guess the next time a youngster tells me she is sick, I'll just say, "Good for you!" LOL.
@orange_girl I still say "dude," too. Has it become antiquated already?
I like the scholarly article idea. That sounds fascinating.
It seems novels are not popular.
Scholarly articles seem to have more support but we could do some of each over time.
I am a historian, but I would enjoy doing not only history, but current events, gender studies, politics, etc.
Feel free to message me and we can consider different ideas.
Neuroplasticity, biochemistry and socialization, frequency and cymatics
@Fibonacci1618 These are certainly issues that are possible if people show an interest.
Article, yes, novel, meh
You said meh
@CallMeDave I did. My pre-coffee communication skills could be generously described as "lacking."
I'd be interested, depending on the subject matter and scheduled timeline of exchange. My schedule is limited, but I'd enjoy the intellectual exchange
