Always interesting to see the latest in psychology regarding women's thoughts. It helps me as a man to better understand women. 🙂

dead wrong, dangerously wrong, offensively wrong. you can't understand women's emotions, plural. every woman is different. furthermore, you have said elsewhere that women speak through their emotions... as if every woman is alike! that is total crap. this does not help you as a man, or as a human being. stop it.

It is amazing to know more about women as they can easily be misunderstood. Get to know how to understand women by understanding women emotions.

I'll own that maybe sometimes I'm thinking about sex without really realising it. My brain will fool itself into believing it's thinking about something else and that thought will float around at loose ends until I figure out what my brain is really on about.

I'm very much a lesbian and I know this because I had sex with a dude and it was... not unpleasant but nothing near as good as sex with a woman.

As a lesbian I can confidently say I don't come anywhere near being attracted to anyone who looks like my brother. My taste in women isn't anywhere near looking like him, either.

I have no brothers ...

Silly.

If you're really interested in understanding women, or a woman, you certainly have your work cut out for you. So here's some information for you to consider, maybe more than you wanted, LLOL

The first thing to understand is that no one size fits all. Psychological insights can be effective in explaining behaviour, more or less depending on who's doing the deciphering. But it is less effective in predicting behaviour, since each of us has been affected and developed through of a combination of nature and nurture influences. We therefore all represent a diverse combination of motivations, resistances, likes, and dislikes.

Learn what what you need to know or understand generally, then use that knowledge as background as you explore the realities presented by a woman you're interested in.

Barbara Markway Ph.D.b writes "Understand that communication is a process. Look at communication problems as an invitation to keep on talking, keep on listening. You and your partner may communicate very differently, but the potential is still there to reach even higher levels of understanding.

The following websites, mostly researched and written by professionals, will give you a variety of insights. But the most effective method of understanding a particular woman, is to communicate openly, honestly, and transparently. I'm suggesting learning about active-listening and empathetic communicating.

Enjoy.

How to Lose the Woman You Love for Good

@MissKathleen pretty much says it all for me.

The article just indicates that most women underestimate the number of times they think about sex.

All three films would be arousing. I don't know what that means, but I am straight.

About brothers? My brothers are handsome. I might be attracted to a man who looks like my brother. But it would be creepy if I was seeing my brother's face instead of his.

Don't bother much with "psychology research"... I prefer "personal experience" with the subject.

It took me a while to process that as a man I don't need to understand women and that's ok, as long as there is common sense...... Why does a woman wants sex, heck if I know and I am ok with it. In the other hand, why does a woman NOT want to have sex? Heck if I know and I am ok with it too. I don't need to understand.

1

Sorry, I think this article is a whole lotta bullshit.

  1. I know when I'm thinking about sex. I don't pretend to myself that I'm not.

  2. I know when I'm sexually attracted to a man. I can believe a woman is attractive, but that doesn't mean I'm interested in her sexually. I'm not bi-curious.

  3. I have a half-brother I haven't seen since he was 4. So, also bullshit.

I don't find the article very convincing. There is key information being left out, like explaining how they knew when women were thinking about sex when the women didn't know themselves. I would need an explanation of the process so I could consider whether it was a valid method of measuring sexual thoughts. It's an extraordinary thing to do.

Also, I know for myself that I married a man who was the opposite my brothers. He was a short Asian with a broad face and shoulders. My brothers are tall, white, and skinny. My one boyfriend who everyone said looked like my brother actually didn't resemble my brothers much. He was white, short, with a long narrow face. My brothers are skinny but don't have that long narrow look. I just think the boyfriend looked more like me. Ironically, when I'm out with my brother, people think he's my husband.

Perhaps
No
Not even close

  1. I always know I'm thinking about sex.

  2. I already know I am attracted to pretty much everybody.

  3. I have never dated or had sex with anybody who looks like my brother.

2
  1. I pretty much know when I'm thinking about sex.
  2. I was very bi-curious and did some experimenting so not necessarily subconscious.
  3. I'd have to say no to this one. But we never really got along growing up and still aren't close.

@Donotbelieve of course my dear!

1

Hmmm. Women thinking about sex. OK, buy me the coat and then we will talk about it.

1

Where/with whom was this study done?!? Because I can confidently state None of my mates, or even the partners that i can remember, have resembled either my father or any of my brothers...too creepy!
In fact. Last hubby ran off with someone who looked exactly like the middle-aged version of his Mom and I think that creeped me out more than anything else about it (more than her porn site with dogs & donkeys, even)

What I really wish is that there were more sage relationship advice geared toward men instead of it all being directed at women. It's so very nauseating having to sift through pick up artist bullshit that just will not die.

@CoastRiderBill Awesome. But it's rife. I'm sitting here watching "how to get the girl" advice on youtube with this guy who has the most annoying voice which just makes him less attractive and a bit comedic that he's even giving advice to begin with- using pick up artist bullshit as his baseline & these derp fest guys are eating it up. smh

  1. measuring how often women think about sex. first of all, the size of the sample, which is extremely important, is not mentioned. second of all, women who take part in this study are already thinking about sex to the extent that they agree to do the study, and not every woman would be interested (not necessarily because they're women, but for a variety of reasons). third of all, if you tell someone you're measuring how often you think about potatoes, you can bet that person is going to think an awful lot more about potatoes than they usually do!

  2. okay.... still no indication of sample size.

  3. what percentage of women HAVE brothers? i don't have any brothers! however, my experience is that many (not all, can't say whether or not most) women do find men more attractive if they resemble family members. this is natural -- it's the US v THEM syndrome.

even if all of this were 100 percent true, how in the world would that help you understand women? none of this is translatable into a blueprint for understanding women (as if women are so much alike that understanding one is understanding all!) it's like understanding something about how the elbow works and thinking you've gained a significant insight into baseball!

g

@CoastRiderBill criticism of all research? well, not from me. and it never hurts to read these things. i would still like to know what kind of sample it was. studies i read generally reveal that.

g

@CoastRiderBill oh that! i am not a peer (and i am not referring to the british government lol). my review is strictly personal!
