What do you think about expanding the Supplemental Nutrition assistance program to cover every one of the US's 325.7 million population. ? On average, SNAP households received about $254 a month in fiscal year 2017. The average SNAP benefit per person was about $126 per month, which works out to about $1.40 per person per meal.

i guess i'm not average. i have been receiving about $180 a month for food, but it's being cut because i provide services instead of paying cash for rent now.

anyway not everyone needs snap benefits. there is no reason to give food support to people who have bank accounts in the cayman islands. those who are in need should receive help. those who are not should not.

Do you feel the same way about UBI? (Universal Basic income)?

@Nos2342 i don't know. i am still thinking about how it could work fairly. i honestly have not decided what i think.

Great idea.

Maybe cover people below certain income levels, but emphasize and give tax breaks to rooftop and urban farming, hydroponics, fresh pesticide-free produce produced locally, IKEA indoor hydroponic gardens people can set up in their kitchens, etc., plant food trees in parks, turn urban spaces and land-wasting lawns into food production, etc.

@Nos2342 Yes, I'm all for it. It's not enough to live on, but enough to give relief so people have a cushion to start new businesses, find new jobs, etc. It's worked well in test cases.

I know a single, adult person who collected $200 in SNAP benefits per month. Where we live, $200 per month is not enough to completely feed an adult (healthy foods) for an entire month. I absolutely feel like the current SNAP benefits should be increased. I cannot see a downside to providing every living person a basic food allowance if they need it, but I don't think this is necessary to provide for every individual citizen. If you make an amount of income that is significantly over the average cost of living, you should be able to claim a tax break (equal to the value of the annual basic food allowance) for not participating in the program.

Nods that makes sense to receive a Tax credit if you opt out if the program.

I don't think everyone should qualify for SNAP. People below, at, or approaching the poverty level should have access to it.

@Nos2342 I believe no one should have to work 2 or more full-time jobs just to make ends meet. The current federal minimum wage does not provide enough annually (roughly $15,000), especially for a single parent with 1 or more kids. Would i like for there to be a UBI? Sure. I'm not exactly sure how it would be calculated how much to give people. What do you base it off of? What it takes for a single person to live alone; single parent with 1 kid or 2 kids? Location also plays a huge role. It takes more money to live in Los Angeles than some-random-town, Iowa.
