I had a couple of friends on FB many years ago in the UK that chose to leave social media and enjoy their families. It is addictive, it's fun most of the time, until it's not. This video touches on a few truths.

So, why are you on this site?

Have you made friends? Do you have fun? Does it piss you off sometimes? Do you take breaks and smell the roses?

What makes it so serious?

This site has been a great source of insight and support for me. There are some really good people here, and I feel very safe posting and sharing. That means a lot for me right.

I spend much of my day on Facebook and here. There is constant updates on news, opinions and questions which I find interesting. And also many posts that are just pure fun. I can frequently express feelings and thoughts that I have had for decades and never really had an outlet for. I have been unfriended by any people who don’t like what I have to say, but have been often surprised by others whom I had no idea they felt as I do about topics from religion (or lack of) to politics. And much of Facebook is just fun! All the animal videos, crazy things people do videos, and cartoons. I follow news from France via Le Monde news outlet. I have engaged some interesting people in discussions of various topics and been informed of movies and books that I might not have heard of any other way. I worked as a bus driver most of my life, where I had to interact daily with hundreds of people I really would have preferred not to and was not generally able to respond to comments without getting into situations that would have caused trouble. So I love being online where I can control who I interact with and what topics I choose to comment on.

I've never been on facebook or any other websites, this is my first. I don't really like it at all.... I love it!!! Made lots of friends, met a man indirectly through this site, and I'm having fun. I have noticed that I'm spending more and more time here... I might have to step back a bit.

On the negative side, I encountered one guy who was very rude to me and to others in one of my posts , but his account has been deleted / removed as a result. So all is well.

Social media is what you make it. I'm on FB. Don't post much. Use it to stay connected to family and friends who aren't local and also have a large network of Atheist FB connections there. On this site, I have made some connections and, for the most part, I enjoy my interactions here.

Sometimes online social interaction is my only interaction for the day. I work at home and taking a break to be on the site helps me avoid isolation. I was on Facebook for a couple years but the religious and political posting was overwhelming and ugly so I left. I like that I can avoid that here.

I have been asking myself if l am enjoying the time l spend here and the answer is not as much. It has been more of a time killer sometimes than anything else.

@Stacey48 me too. I haven't taken a break yet. Maybe l should.

@Stacey48 Getting hooked on this site has kind of pissed me off. This is the only social network l have been on. I just use FB to keep track of what is going on locally and keep up with a hand full of friends.

@Stacey48 l have seen that opinion shared by several people on this site. I suppose l haven't figured out what l want to use this site for, or at all.

@Stacey48 It seems we have covered so many subjects since l joined at the end of Feb, that is turning in to mostly memes sometimes. They are OK, but seldom stimulate conversation.

@Stacey48 I actually left a few groups that do constant memes. I also created a meme group. Sometimes when you don't like content you can change it by creating the change you'd like to see.
Same for any content here. Follow/Unfollow? That helps your alerts too.

I'd rather a small amount of great content then an avalanche of drivel. Ok and cats.. I need cats. ?

It's given me a chance to think and work through some issues. Has also given me a direction to try some new things with my life. Once I was even pulled back from the brink of an emotional disaster by another member. The ground is finally getting a little firmer under foot.

@Stacey48 You are one of those positive people I've enjoyed interacting with. ?

@Stacey48 If you feel the urge or need you still have my number to text. Peace.
