I was at a guy's funeral today. I knew him through work, we had a friendly relationship but there were professional boundaries to observe.
It was a religious service held at a crematorium. I'd been to a few secular ones there but not a religious one. What intrigued me, and I shouldn't really have been surprised by this, was how meaningless the religious content was and the fact that the whole 'god is love', 'Eternal paradise' and 'Now he's in the embrace of the lord' bit is utter nonsense. It really just makes no sense whatsoever.
I suppose it was comforting to know, for me on a personal level, that even at a time like this god etc was irrelevant.
