I think it’s a reasonable, respectful way to bring attention to a pattern of gross injustice in our country. Making it about loyalty or claiming it’s a protest against the military seems to me like an intentional misdirection.

I support NFL players and others who choose not stand or take a knee during the National Anthem, to protest police brutality against black people and minorities.

I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color," Colin Kaepernick told NFL Media in an exclusive interview after the game.

"To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder."

Colin Kaepernick is exercising his First Amendment rights.

Bravo!

The anthem and the knee thing is all Trumpthink and he was not even in the military. Playing of the anthem at games was a request of our government to keep young men interested in joining the Armed Forces. I'm ex military and not opposed to taking a knee. What is missing here is why they take a knee. Hardly ever do we get reminded of this being because racist police officer actions have caused death among blacks and further promoted un-equality in our nation.

Now I'm waiting for all the white supremacist remarks like "Duh, well they kill each other don't they?" There is always a genius in every room. Failure to see what is really behind this makes you someone I do not want to be around or associate with.

I agree with you.

I think anyone should be allowed to peacefully protest. I see nothing wrong with what the players are doing, taking a knee during the national anthem to protest racial inequality. We will never be able to reach our full potential as a species if we continue to think that the color of one's skin determines whether you are superior or not. It's absolutely ridiculous that we still hold on to this ancient belief. The Civil War is over, the Civil Rights Act was passed, it's time to move forward. I agree with the picture because the players are being brave in taking a stand and pointing out that this is not the land of the free when the color of your skin determines if you love or die when dealing with the police.

Well said.

@Louiseann thank you.
