Out of all the the denominations of jesus following religions the mormons creep me out the most. I don't even know if they are considered christians . I see them walking home from their temple thing in the neighborhood I live in and I feel sorry for the kids. Wonder if the kids would go if given the choice.

Mormons wish to identify as Christians on the basis that they believe Jesus is god's son and accept the Bible as god's word.

Some Christians will not have them on the basis that they also accept the Book of Mormon and other holy books (thus violating the core doctrine of sola scriptura) and also fail to satisfy other tenets of the historic Christian faith. That is why Mormons do not accept or subscribe to any of the historic creeds and why they regard themselves as a reform movement restoring Christianity to its original and now, but for them, lost state.

I would guess that about 85% of Christianity either doesn't care or allows them to be considered Christian, and about 15% sees them as a dangerous cult.

Why do they “creep you out”? They are victims of brainwashing just like any other religous believers. Just hope that some of the kids manage to escape from their clutches.

Well said.

@Teterbilt Okay, I get that.

I see some in my neighborhood. I don't avoid or malign them, as I don't want to be the bitter face of atheism. I suspect Westboro would probably have a bigger following if they didn't radiate FUCK YOU. Likewise, I choose not to express my convictions through bitterness and animus.

Awgawd. I can spot them on the sidewalk and I will literally cross the street to avoid them. They have this not-quite-human vibe that probably comes with being called an 'Elder' before your voice even changes

right? I remember Mitt Romney seemed like a robot to me! He just didn't move naturally.?

Having abandoned my faith some ten or so years ago, I have found that the further away I get from religion, the fewer distinctions of any significance do I see. As nearly all religious faiths have, as their foundation, superstitions and a belief in miracles--i.e., things that could not possibly have happened and are therefore falsehoods--what does it matter what the Mormons or any other 'brand' espouses?

agreed. but it still seems like "the elephant in the room" kind of thing sometimes.
