Why does the universe exist? | Jim Holt
There is no answer other than it just does.
Correct. At the current time we simply do not know. I'm not even sure of a "big bang." What does seem to be certain is that everything suddenly started expanding quickly and appears to still be doing so.
@gater i did not realize you were there.
scientists who believe the big bang was not the beginning still believe it was the beginning of THIS universe, which will not expand forever -- that there may have been a universe or universes before this one, which contracted and then banged into the next one. none of them claims this IS how it it, just that it COULD be how it is, with varying degrees of likelihood. you, on the other hand, have the truth, i guess.

@gater You're straight up wrong. I don't have the time nor the inclination to get into it, but whatever research you've done on this subject has been inadequate to the task. I'm a former astronomer and astrophysicist, but you will just ignore silly things like credentials anyway, hence this will be my only response to this ridiculous belief.
