It’s interesting that the antipathy toward religion on this site generally seems to be aimed at Christianity! Buddhists and Sikhs seem to get a free run! Why would that be?

Buddhists, Jains, Taoists and a few of the others also don’t believe in a god. Hinduism is so huge that I’ve been unable to work out exactly what they believe...

I assume it's because the majority of people here are from Christian backgrounds and thus feel an especial antipathy for that faith - we've had a handful of people from Muslim backgrounds who felt much the same about Islam, and some Jewish users who reserved most of the ire for Judaism too. Perhaps, if we get a users from other religious backgrounds, they'll be the same?

Geography? Most of the members of this site are from Christian dominant societies. We are most familiar with Christianity, see the harm it causes, and so we take aim and fire away! When it comes to Christianity, we know what we dislike, and dislike what we know.

I have never encountered an obnoxious Sikh, and there are a lot of Sikhs here in Washington State. They know that religion is a personal thing and that it guides only themselves, not everyone else.

Most of us have had bad experiences with Christian Churches, and a degree of anger is sometimes justified in keeping us on course away from their clutches. In my case that anger has mellowed out and run its course—it’s a happier state of mind.

No Muslims, Buddhists, or Sikhs have bothered me so far.

I am in absolute love with Hindu religious philosophy.

The current evangelicals/christians have taken some amazingly unchristlike positions lately. I am very respectful of religion if that is what you believe and follow, but first apply all those religious rules to yourself. Then when you get the the love you neighbor part, which includes immigrants, unwed mothers, hungry children, destitute, etc, apply those religious rules to yourself once again. If you got all that right then you probably won't join the white supremists, you probably won't engage in denigrating and name calling, you probably won't snipe on the internet.

I do know a few that apply the rules to themselves and only themselves.

Buddhists & Sikhs, and quite a few other groups (orthodox jews, for example) Mind Their Own Business, do not ring my doorbell, do not attempt to legislate things like abortion, do not want me being specific places on Sunday, with covered body parts, do not threaten me with "eternal damnation"...i could go on (and on, and on) but maybe, maybe, some of these reasons might cause you to actually Think?!

We live in a Christian dominated country. Also, a country where we are free to speak our mind.....for now anyway.
