I just lost one of my dearest friends. His family doesn't understand my loss. I live in a rural area in Georgia. Finding someone who shares my interests is next to impossible. I'm a nonbeliever, a liberal, who likes opera and loves ballet. I can't be the only one.

What a coincidence. I'm just breaking up with a mega-millionaire lady from Long Boat Key who was a fellow connaiseur of opera. It was wonderful while it lasted but the difference in our socio-economic backgroud was "the elephant in the room." I'm not into jewelry or fancy clothes, for instance. I'm not agnostic but a strong atheist. There CAN'T be a god.

I'm placing an ebook on line any day based on my philosophy. I call it Rational Darwinism. There's a lot to it. Perhaps you can read when it's ready.

I was just in rural Georgia to escape Irma. They told us here in Sarasota that she was the worst huricaine in history. Being an atheist anything that threatens my life scares the heck out of me. My son and I (I'm a widower) wound up in a place called Waycross, just south of Macon. Seemed like a Baptist church was on every block. I told my son, "I hope they don't get me started." I'm also a militant atheist, not violent, just active in that I'm tired living with people that live more for the next life than this one.

Keep an eye out for "Saving Gaia" on Lulu. Our day is coming as the NONEs are increasing in numbers rapidly. That's a person who writes "none" when asked what religionn they are

Who's your favorite composer? Modestly speaking I doubt that you're in my league, but that's fine. If you love opera and classical it'll be a great chance to learn. Seeing Manon Lescaut next week at the Sarasota Opera. Puccini's first hit after Il Villi which flopped. Manon is important because it shows what life was like before the French Revolution. Same thing going on now with the rich ruling the poor.

Remeber you're not alone as there are many of us that feel the same.

Losing a friend, who shares many philosohpical teis, interests and passions is a big loss. I am sorry.

You are not the only one out there, you just aren't connected to everyone to know their views and likes. Maybe try placing ads in local groups like Craigslist? Or searching Facebook for local like minded groups? I'm sorry for your loss and hope you find a new friend soon!

Thank you!

Sorry for your loss. As for making new friends, you could try moving to the Atlanta Metro area. It barely even feels southern most of the time.

I’m very sorry for your loss.

Yes, I can understand how you feel...when we are older it is not easy to go out and meet new people and especially...trying to find the few non-belivers in this area of the country. I am sorry about your friend 'leaving'...and would he want you to give up finding more friends? I would guess not. Use his valuable friendship to hold on too and find another way. I know it want be easy, but let his memory support you now.

Very sorry for your loss. You are not alone. I'm in a rural area of Georgia, too. Take heart, you have found a home here, if you want it.

Thanks to all of you!

Keep up the struggle. All of us here have been through the same thing. Use us and maybe even in rural Georgia there might be a Meetup group to check out.

Thank you!

Lose yourself in opera tonight...

shit, I should not be responding to you, but I feel your pain, seen too many people die recently, take heart that people care , even if they don't know you

Why should you not be responding? <genuinely confused>

We live in such strange times "opera and ballet" being considered liberal.

I tend to think that opera and ballet are not especially political. Not that they can't be.

On dear..we share your pain.

Sorry to hear that.

On the other, here anyway, I don't think your alone in your interests. I can join you in three of the four catagories... sorry Opera is not my thing. 😟
