So it was my initial (probably naive) thought that this place was basically comprised of agnostics and atheists, but every now and then I see a post written from a theistic point of view (such as "Atheists, what makes you think no god exists?". How many of you out there come here to testify, challenge, or otherwise confront us? Just curious

How else to start a conversation about "What makes YOU think no god exists?" This question put this way does not mean the questioner is a theist.

Even if they declare they ARE a theist, if they are polite and ask a sincere question, maybe I can give them a rational answer that will make them think.

I get your point about the wording, emphasis and inflection, but the post started out by specifically addressing atheists (which to me at least suggested the poster did not consider themselves to be part of that group). Regardless, I think some folks misunderstood the reason for my question. I am not opposed to the concept of sharing this space with religious people. I must admit to a certain sick sense of curiosity that compels me to engage them online (granted in often less-than-productive forums and formats). My only point in bringing it up was to get a sense for why they choose to come here to rehash the same old debunked and shredded apologetics arguments that have been belched up and destroyed countless times on other sites (not to say that all of them do that, because I know they don't)

...I think any forum runs the chance
of trollery/as any garden has an occasional

I don’t call myself an atheist, but even if I did I would like to play the devil’s advocate now and then. Every forum should have a variety of opinions and perspectives. How boring and useless if every comment was in agreement—if every topic was about stupid idiotic theisists and how horribly we have been victimized by religion.

Open-minded people are interested and curious about the opinions of others even when they disagree. I greatly enjoy talking with courageous, intelligent atheists. Please don’t run me off.

I’ve witnessed the same, they don’t seem to last long.. Actually, I kinda miss some of those go-rounds … now, it’s only our resident ‘conservatives’ who fill that need 😉

Well, I don't think "conservative" should be a dirty word if you really stop to consider what it means. That of course applies to "liberal" as well. We need a proper balance of ideas in this country. If either side controls things for too long there is a tendency to shit the bed and then blame the other side for not doing enough to change the sheets

...a little seasoning/spice?

Except they have blocked most of us. ?

I come here to avoid this. You can have the entire rest of the world.

Don’t give them the world.. Let’s place them in a box, like us 😉

Yes!!! I come here to avoid having to debate religious non-sense. I don't mind if members share their past experiences in a religious community, their experiences leaving religion, or their emotional issues relating to these.

@OwlInASack do you think they will selfishly attempt to take over this site too? It is their nature to own everything. ?

@OwlInASack Lucky you!

nope, but closed systems become echo chambers any well thought out or genuinely inquisitive questions deserve an answer no one has to but if anger is kept out lots of people enjoy the art of debating you don't change minds with anger. Moralistic theism with nothing to back it up on the other hand can fuck right off

It is basically comprised of agnostics and atheists. As you yourself say, it's only every now and then that someone writes a post from a theistic point of view.

I don't know but as an anti-theist the last thing I want to talk about while I am here is religion.

I am a plant by the Catholic church to discover where atheists source their babies for daily consumption.

It would be much better if they were allowed to grow! ... and be molested by God-fearing priests.

Free-range all the way. They are sourced locally and organically at Satan worshipper orgies. One out of every four is sacrificed to our dark Lord Christopher Hitchens, and then we cull the stem cells to cure the diseases that god has delivered upon us in retaliation for our continued defiance of him. Baby pairs well with a warm apple compote and mustard greens. I would also recommend a Riesling.
