My mother was always upset that I didn't clean up in the kitchen perfectly. If I missed one crumb on the countertop she'd go nuts. But she had an obsessiveness about cleanliness that I came to understand was not about me.

My willingness to voice contrary opinions was enough for my dad to tell my wife he never wants to speak to me again.

So confusing, yes my kids can get on my nerves from time to time. Even so, how do you not do everything in your power to help them succeed in this life. It's the ruler by which we measure ourselves as decent human beings. So sorry to hear about your dad's reaction.

Telling the truth about how abusive they were seemed to drive them nuts, suffice to say I haven't seen them in decades

I think they'd prefer me more malleable. I like to make up my own mind about most everything. Pretty much how I found myself here.

That and grabbing popcorn at the theatre with my tongue. That always pissed Mom off. ?

It drives my step father nuts that I fail to take his advice on how to do the job I have done for 40 years despite the fact that he was in a totally different field
