Is anyone else tired of the philosophical crap about the existence of a theistic God? There is evidence it doesn't exist. If something is contradictory with regards to it's existence then it cannot be so. You can't be all loving and create evil! You can't be unchanging and then change. That to me is evidence of a theistic God being man made to help control the masses as society started to change. There are too many other examples to go through but people need to get off the fence. I'm sick of all this but you can't disprove anything 100%. That isn't a standard we hold in the real world and saying it is a cop out. There is no theistic God end of!

The problem is that there is not a large enough stage to present these ideas to the masses as such many people without giving it much individual thought go thru life the way they were brought up.

We are all sick of it however it is still there. Ergo we continue too attempt education of those afflicted with this mental state. Over the last century, I would venture to say we have made great progress. A few more generations and it will be a historical myth that captured the human soul.

Tired, yet also pleased. When they retreat into philosophy, it's because they know they can't make arguments based on reality. It's an admission of defeat, really.

Here is a very good video regarding null and alternative hypotheses in the context of the god discussion:

"the theistic God".

you mean the abrahamic god, theism is belief in any god.

I hear you and I'm tired of theistic god arguments. People just want to believe so badly that they keep on making up almost anything that comes to mind. Sorry. It just doesn't work.

If I say that the moon is only a mile away and is made of cheese, you would have every reason to reject my concept of the moon. That would not mean that the moon doesn’t exist—just that my concept was erroneous.

In discussing the existence of God we are off track before we start because we don’t know the meaning of the word “exist” in its ultimate sense. We are looking outward, away from ourselves into what we think of as objective reality, looking for a “thing” that some have given the label “God”.

It’s a futile search because we are leaving our own selves out of the equation. Supposedly we are planning to get an understanding of this “thing” using our conscious awareness, but we haven’t the slightest idea of what conscious awareness consists and by corollary we don’t even know what we ourselves are.

That word “God” is nothing more than an icon, a crude symbol for the ultimate reality beyond our sense world. Might as well stop looking right now because Ultimate Reality is us.

If there is a God, it certainly isn't like the evil autocrat that gets preached about 99% of the time. And no, you can't disprove the Great Pumpkin either...but I would prefer that one over the cruel fire and brimstone God most theists believe in.
The philosophical crapola you talk about is just people who have already made up their mind walking backwards into a very non-convincing rationalization. If it was convincing we would all be theists.

I think I understand where you're coming from but the fact is we are in the minority. Reason doesn't work with believers and even though the majority of folks on this site are not on the fence the majority of people in the world aren't either, they fervently believe in a theistic god and we try to reason with them in words that don't immediately turn them off. I see you live in Poland and so I don't know the situation there and I am speaking more from my observations here in the U.S.

The problem is that you can never prove that something doesn't exist. There is no proof that unicorns don't exist.

You can show evidence that may make it unlikely, that would be in conflict with another notion, but it can never be "proven". So there will always be wiggle room in the minds of those who choose to belive.

What a minute...unicorns don't exist? 🙂

The burden of proof is on he who asserts the positive. If someone says there are invisible pink bunnies in the room, it is up to the person who says it to prove it. It is not up to you to disprove it. You cannot disprove it, because there is no evidence either way. But, a lack of any evidence doesn't mean you should be unsure of its existence, but that you should reject it out of hand. If asked, "are there invisible pink bunnies in the room?", I would say, "I'm certain there are not." I wouldn't say, "I'm on the fence about the question." The same is true about a god.

@Silverwhisper Good point, which I had originally planned on answering, but ran out of time. In the case of invisible pink bunnies and god, there is also the question of does the assertion fit any other known observation or experience, or does it contradict everything else you know about reality. Again, running out of time.

It is not "philosophical crap" it is "Theological crap"
Theology is that bastard child of metal gymnastics and wishful thinking.
