Making the church lady cry!
I've got one co worker that was over joyed when her son lost his job, because she had always known he was destined to be a minister.
Last Thursday she was attempting to lead (bully) my shift in a prayer for a co workers husband who had just had heart surgery. She had cornered them in the break room whole waiting for a courier who had neen held up in traffic.
She says to me when I try and sneak pass them to the coffee machine " We're going to pray for Kathy's husband would you like to join us?" I started to say " are you coming apart! " but am learning to hold my tongue at times. I say " the closet is gonna be really crowded if I try and for my fat ass in it too "
She says " what do you mean" i answer wasnt it that mexican guy Jesus that said to go into a closet to pray?" The she starts bawling saying I'm making fun of her. I was but, still can't find it in my heart to feel the least bit of guilt.
...but it is ok for her to bully everyone into praying???? I would make fun of her too and then proudly own up to it.
Instead of being snarky, you could do as I do and just say, "That's you, not me," then ignore her, look bored, and leave the room every time she brings up religion.
If cornered, glance at your watch, and mumble "Um-hum..that's nice," then excuse yourself and leave. Stay away for a while.
People hate to be ignored, so they quickly learn to avoid religious subjects.
I've got Matthew 6:5-6 memorized for dealing with situations like that:
Matthew 6:5-6
5 βAnd when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
"Mexican guy?" What are you talking about? Sounds like an inappropriate joke from the Simpsons in the early 90's.
