I play in the minor leagues, my only health care is the VA...

Thank goodness I am British. Our National Health Service is free at the point of delivery....we pay during our working lives through National Health Insurance which is deducted from us at source like our taxation system PAYE (Pay as you Earn). This is by far a better system than that employed in most other countries. This year we are celebrating the 70th Anniversary of our NHS and all the wonderful medical staff who have worked for our benefit over these years. We do have some waiting lists for certain surgery, but in an emergency or acute illness situation we know we will be guaranteed to be treated immediately and without any worry about the cost.

The American for-profit health care industry wants to SELL you insurance. That's why this powerful special interest fights Obama Care, single payer and Medicare For All. If they ever get control of the air we breathe they will gladly sell it to us for a profit.

It is tough. I am self-employed and have ACA insurance - but make too much money for any subsidies. It is only me, but I still pay 1K per month for my policy. But if I have a catastrophic event, I'm covered insurance (yes crazy deductible). I've worked in the health care world (informatics) for a long time - including with customers in Canada and Australia. Nobody in either country has ever told me that they would swap their health care system for our system.

I've also helped some folks with ACA insurance informally -- for moderate income folks the subsidies can help a great deal. I've also pay for an ACA plan for one of my adult children who was sidelined with an autoimmune disorder for quite some time. She could not work enough to make it the subsidy level and Nebraska has not expanded Medicaid. So dad had to cough up money to keep her in insurance in case of troubles. She was quite ill (is better now) so going without could have had a really terrible outcome for her.

Ugh.

It’s a national disgrace and just another reason for the other developed nations to laugh at America.

I am so sorry for you guys, its 2018 and you deserve better. I am so massively massively proud of the NHS. Not only are we guaranteed free healthcare (from cradle to grave) but they paid my wage for 23 years and now contribute to salary as a lecturer. Because of this, I can't give up completely and still consider myself a proud NHS nurse (even if it is just one shift a week)

I don't know how people do it. Six years ago I was fighting for my life diagnosed with AML-acute myloid leukemia. I had health insurance, then Cobra, then Hospital paid and lastly Obamacare. Been on Medicare and Medicaid since then. Recently moved to NY-gave up my NH Medicaid Program and bought the bullet and got Supplemental Medicare-more affordable than I thought. Critical to take care of your body.
