You need a Foodsaver vacuum my friend! You will love it! I prep meals for an army, vac it, freeze it and BEHOLD... A home cooked meal in 10 minutes if I don't feel like cooking. You can also store other stuff, cheese, etc.

My favorite supermarket story was told by George Carlin.... Take stuff out of other people's carts... When they look at you strangely or say something about it... Explain that they haven't paid for it yet so it still "belongs to all of us!"

I have lived on my own for almost eight years since my husband died and I very rarely have any food wastage. When I buy meat I either portion it up into individual portions and freeze the surplus portions or cook it and then do the same. We can still get loose vegetables at some supermarkets here, or if not I buy the smallest packs which if bought fresh will last several days in the fridge. Planning menus and buying accordingly reduces waste....eggs come already individually packaged and can be turned into quick meals for one. Fruit too comes in individual portions and also yoghurts. It did take a while for me to stop overbuying food as I was used to shopping and cooking for two or more, but now I have got it perfected.

I always bought bulk from an organic health food coop, when I lived in Morehead, KY. A sack of spring wheat berries or organic rolled oats would last a year. Tubs of organic peanut butter or almond butter don't spoil, and you can freeze food into smaller portions after cooking a big batch of it.

My food costs were very low, and I grew my own fresh herbs and vegetables in the summer.

You can break off as much produce (like broccoli, etc) as you want.

I agree, and the servings for one are a lot more expensive than buying the family size.

How about restaurants when you ask for a table for one, that surprised pity look.
